Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] *** 9.3 km (8:36 / km) +300m 7:24 / km
ahr:170 max:190 spiked:21/28c shoes: 2009 Falcons

Leg 5 for OUOC Harvester team at Eridge. Came away with a much better impression of the area than after the JK - probably because it wasn't snowing and the courses spent a lot more time in the woodland.

Took it steady after the cold, body not overly responsive and wearing two layers was a mistake - got far too warm. Navigationally relatively good but some poor mistakes:
8 - should have gone straighter sooner - compounded by a parallel set of features as was too high,
14 - overran after not reading map properly
18 - dropped too low towards another distinct tree
19 - bad exit from 18
21 - poor map reading, control further from fence than was expecting
24 - should have gone further left, but again map didn't seem quite right

Worst error was ~5 mins at 6, down to some poor mapping... I expect to be able to see a knoll in a clearing when the forest is that visible from a fair distance, but not when it is 20m closer to a thicket than it should be, and in the trees.

An enjoyable area for a Harvester, shame we didn't have a full team and that the map could have been better. Oh, and would have been nice if all teams would have run the same course...

GPS distance - 10.9km

Cycling 40:00 [1] 15.0 km (22.5 kph)
shoes: Shimano Road Shoes

Easy to/from Wittenham - not feeling too bad.

Orienteering 45:00 [0]

Some low-speed control collecting after the day at Wittenham with S. Oxfordshire schools. Little bit of jogging around at other points too.

Orienteering 29:00 [0] *** 2.5 km (11:36 / km)
spiked:14/15c

Walk round the Z loops at the Brill Summer event. Navigation spot-on until switched off at the last control. Still good fun, plenty of new control sites and no long drag down the road for anyone this year!

Slowly feeling better, hopefully one more decent night's sleep will kick things for good.

GPS distance - 2.85km

Still horribly clogged up, taking it easy for now.

Note

Knocked out after the weekend...

Orienteering 47:00 [3] 8.4 km (5:36 / km)
(sick) shoes: Walsh Ultra - 2010

UK Cup Final at MOD Stafford. Easy navigation and primarily flat, easy running. Feeling better than yesterday but just keeping it steady, nothing more.

Circuits 35:00 [1]

Token effort at some core exercises, with plenty of stretching thrown in. Generally feeling broken.
