Note

I had the weekend off rather than going to Tabland to finish the map. I now feel more alive than I did most of last week. I also now need to find some time in the near future to go to Tabland to finish the map...

Back from Lakes, knackered, sleep...

Walking 20:00 [3] 1.2 km (16:40 / km) +240m 8:20 / km
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Up to Yewdale from Holly How

Orienteering 2:15:00 [2] 10.0 km (13:30 / km)
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Hanging controls for Norwegian and peg relay exercises, then collecting a few in at the end of the day.

Orienteering 40:00 [4] **** 4.4 km (9:05 / km) +270m 6:57 / km
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Peg relay exercise on Yewdale. Didn't feel great physically, and was really hesitant navigationally, not moving smoothly and losing contact with the map all too often. So pretty much like most of the week then - not awake enough...

GPS Distance - 5km

Walking 2:10:00 [3] 10.0 km (13:00 / km) +700m 9:38 / km
shoes: Walsh Ultra

Sleepy, so didn't go to Bethecar. Couldn't be doing nothing on such a gorgeous winter day in the Lake District so went out into the fells. Initial plan was up onto Yewdale and round to Coppermines, then back through Coniston. But things seemed good, so made a snap decision while out there to go up Wetherlam as conditions were so clear. Still some snow on the ground higher up, views from the top were pretty spectacular and was glad to have the camera with me.

Ran most of the way back down, with the sun slowly dipping behind the Old Man, scenery was amazing and that first part of the descent was really enjoyable, even if I did whack my knee on a rock after tripping over at one point. Still had a big grin on my face though, being out there with just the stunning landscape, stretching away for miles around, for company. It's a crime not to love the Lakes when it's like this.

Orienteering 23:00 [3] *** 1.7 km (13:32 / km)
ahr:149 max:174 shoes: 2008 Falcons

Skelghyll training - short course round south of area. First leg had some route choice - went high and then tried to cut round the hill, but steep, rocky and slippery underfoot, plus many fallen trees. A little confused about a later control - went back to it and realised they'd shifted the fence...

Still not feeling physically that great

Orienteering 28:00 [2] **** 1.5 km (18:40 / km)
ahr:137 max:178 shoes: 2008 Falcons

Line course, again quite slow and steep, went back a couple of times when realised had paralleled off the line, map seemed a little off in some bits too.

Orienteering 27:00 [4] ****
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Then went round the 'Talk-O' on my own, as some controls being collected in - felt like the best orienteering I did all week, fairly smooth through controls and picking up the detail early; confident that I was in the right place for the controls even with no kites :)

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] **** 3.0 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Tarn Hows training - after a snooze in the minibus, went for a wander round bearings/contours course, picking out all the detail quite nicely and taking a few photos along the way.

Orienteering 35:00 [1] **** 2.1 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Then around the control pick course, without going back down to and up again from the start. One control was a little further down the slope than I thought it would be, distance judgement was a bit dodgy on that one.

Orienteering 25:00 [4] 2.8 km (8:56 / km)
shoes: 2008 Falcons

Fun headless chicken event, looking for chocolate coins on crags. Quite steep in places, felt crap on each and every hill
