Note
(rest day)

Had decided not to run the long previous night, so just sat out at the spectator control which was about 1.5km from the end of both courses. First men's runner took 2h15 to this point, it took a while before the times came down - the winner took 85 through spectator and just sub-93 overall. Glad I chose not to run.

Felt far better by the end of things but a bit dozy on the way home and feeling a bit groggy again now.

Warm up/down 5:00 [2] *
shoes: Asics 1120

Jog round parts of warm-up map before the sprint race. Felt a bit heavy legged but decided to go for it anyway...

UK Cup Final Sprint, Shrewsbury. A fun race but legs and body certainly not with it, didn't feel anything like I did on Tuesday evening. Couple of 20" misses, one with poor route-choice and going part-way down a dead alley, other missing my turn thinking the road was too big and having to double back. And time-loss to #2 just through being overly hesitant a few too many times. Distance run was 4.25km

To the start of the middle race, didn't feel particularly good...

UK Cup Final - middle race. Shouldn't have run. Slight headache on the start line, thought it might go but should have listened. Routes were poor and controls appearing before I thought they should early on in the course, then starting missing the obvious easy route choices which meant fighting/stumbling around in the chest to head-high bracken. Got more and more frustrated, kept on hitting shin on branches hidden amongst the bracken and cursing more and more loudly every time it happened. Mind gave up, body gave up, I should have jacked but for some reason decided to finish. Lost 20 minutes from control #7 to control #19, only spiked 6 of 19 in the forest... Garmin distance: 7.75km

Note
(sick)

So the headache was still there after the run, felt really groggy and out of it and didn't really want to do anything. Got back to youth hostel and dozed/slept for 3 hours, shower and food then helped a little, before going back to sleep for a good 8 hours. Woke up coughing quite a bit but without a headache...

Feeling a bit off today, sneezing a lot and feeling a bit stuffy - damn hayfever... Thought wisest to give intervals a miss.

In Derby all day for Development Committee meeting, there's a hell of a lot happening/about to happen/could happen and it's exciting to be involved - hoping we can go places :)

Great line from the Jukola details:

"The starts are videotaped and teams making a false start or causing one will be disqualified."

Just imagine getting over 1400 people back in the relevant places and restarting such an event...

Summer Series at Gt Hampden. Felt the best I have done for a long while, it was pretty flat but running fluidly with seemingly little effort, felt like I could have kept going - the day off yesterday must have done me some good. Heart rate seems a little high for perceived effort level though?

Navigation was pretty bad though, somehow managed to win - everyone else must have been having a bad day. Spike rate sums things up nicely - and must remember to ignore people. Nice to visit the good part of the area, map however in serious need of updating, vegetation well off in places and you'd never know there were distinct veg boundaries in there - some of the most amazing runnable light green, and walk for that matter, that I've ever seen...

Rain held off and although vegetation still wet it was a nice enjoyable relaxed run. A little too relaxed in places, you might say. Garmin distance of 6.25km.

Note
(rest day)

Feeling on the rough side of average today, as I suspected might have been coming before the weekend. So no circuits to play it on the safe side of things, I think the guys there made a good decision to go inside given the current weather...
