Circuits 44:00 [3]

Felt a bit harder this week, put that down to a weekend of racing. Knee not happy a couple of times... have come to expect that now though.

Orienteering 56:35 [5] *** 6.4 km (8:50 / km) +380m 6:49 / km
spiked:26/30c shoes: 2007 Falcons

BUSA Relay, Beeley Wood - 1st leg, OUOC Men's 2nd team (the "Gamma Ray Bursts"). Hilly and knackering, far cleaner run than on the individual, managed to keep with the pack a bit longer than expected and generally had runners around me. Just pipped on the final control/run-in by Chris W...

A little miss on #4, a boulder hiding behind a fallen tree from our direction of approach (should have read the thickets a bit better, 15") but there were enough people around that it was obvious in the end. Didn't read contours into the pit at #11 very well (30"), bit of a poor line out of first spectator (map turn-over) will have cost some time (20-30") and poor route/hesitant to #21, seeing the other two gaffles before mine and getting slightly confused... (45"). Perhaps a couple of route choices could have gone a bit better but don't think it cost much time...

Felt a bit stronger physically today, could run up quite a few of the hills, but often you then hit a brambly bit and feet were getting caught - felt "tired" in that couldn't pick feet up less than half way round but tried to keep forcing the pace a bit more than on the individual.

OUOC first teams ran strongly to finish 3rd on both men's and women's relays! Which meant we reclaimed our 3rd best uni O club title :)

Next stop - JK!

Event: BUSA

Orienteering 1:33:52 [4] **** 8.9 km (10:33 / km) +475m 8:20 / km
spiked:22/33c shoes: 2007 Falcons

BUSA Individual, Stanton Moor. Really really scrappy, not concentrating well and control flow/reading ahead was absolutely terrible. Not helped by the energy sapping nature of the terrain, especially the heather, which I'm still not strong enough to deal with yet...

Poor start - 15-20" lost on each of first two controls. Control description confusion/error at #6 and 7, latter was faffing too low on slope, should have read it was a 6m high crag... (20", 90"). Exit error from #12, poor route choices (heather rather than path...) to #13 & 14 (30", 1'), latter compounded by a silly error.

Hesitant in butterflies, not helped by being over-cautious on brambly rocky slopes, 90"+ lost on #19 through poor route and poor map-reading... Needless 90"+ lost faffing at #24, silly route to #27 was completely unnecessary (1') and poor exit from #30 (30") was likely down to tiredness by that point.

Not a good day really - shouldn't be 10 mins down on Chris Williamson... Some bits felt like I hadn't fully recovered from this lingering cold, maybe it's just the lack of running in the last couple of weeks caused by the cold...

Warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: 2007 Falcons

Slow run with Chris E up to the start, then jog/walk/cough back down to download. Run up there didn't feel entirely comfortable, should have indicated what was to come...

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Walsh Ultra

Back to running - round the nature reserve with Helen - a bit of an explore at one point meant (literally) through the nature reserve...

Cycling 1:18:00 [2] 24.5 km (18.8 kph) +235m

Really unproductive day post end of term dinner - read lazy and hungover. Thought I should do something, so went out for a cycle. First bit was fine, but coming home across the hills, fighting into the wind, wasn't fun and really quite slow...
