Orienteering 1:25:18 [4] *** 7.9 km (10:48 / km) +415m 8:33 / km
spiked:22/26c shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

BUSA Individual, Arncliffe, Men's A. Far far better than BUSA last year, where I had a bit of a 'mare to say the least...

Was starting quite near the end so expecting many fast people to go straight past me. and the 2 minute-man (Marcus Pinker) was past on hill on the way up to #2 - not really a surprise. Just ignored him - my aim was to get round as cleanly as possible.

Technically was pretty good - only 4 controls I didn't spike, #5 got caught on wrong side of fallen tree which had to go round, lost 20 secs or so. #10 was more silly, making a parallel error confusing two curved paths and taking an unnecessary trip into the green. Still a bit hesitant after realised, lost a good 2-2.5 minutes. Then out onto the moor, generally good lines, quite hesitant into #15 along the line of detail and lost 30-60 seconds on that one. Slog up the hill into the wind on #18 and 19, didn't feel particularly strong. Another quite bad mistake to #20, back in the woods - got to the hilltop as planned but dropped down the wrong spur and ended up by the girlies control. Took a good minute or so to relocate, eventually twigged and dropped straight on. Bit of hesitance to #21 after that but hit straight on, rest of course was good but a bit of a struggle physically. Not that surprising given the complete lack of training in recent weeks.

Also definitely noticed am more hesitant on the downhills now after having done my ankle in, couple of downhill splits at the end through nice-ish forest the top guys were doing half my time...

Run - off road (Steady) 47:00 [3]
shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

British Summer Time -> more useful daylight hours :) (given my sleep habits...)

So after the lab at about 6.30 went out to portmeadow, aiming for about 45 mins. Bit of terrain in the nature reserve, saw/disturbed a deer in there. Still quite muddy in places in the north of portmeadow. Nice to get out but never felt like I had any sort of rhythm...

Fantastic view at the start of the run, Wytham in the background covered in haze, the orange disc of the sun setting behind the hills but reflecting off the water still sitting on Portmeadow. One of those "wish I had a camera" moments...

Need to find some hills before Saturday...
