Orienteering 1:06:14 [4] ** 9.9 km (6:41 / km) +115m 6:19 / km
spiked:15/20c shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

Compass Sport Cup qualifier at Harewood, Brown course (Men's Open).

Physically - running well, felt comfortable for the most part, moving quite smoothly through the forest (even if there were quite a few brambles in places...), not sure if I could have pushed it on a level though without dying. I've felt like this for the last couple of runs so maybe my fitness isn't as bad as I thought :)

Technically, bit too scrappy in the trickier parts of the course, didn't slow down enough or read the detail on the map well. Case in point being that slid past the penultimate control even though saw the small reentrant next to it, and lost at least 40 secs on a 30 second leg... One really silly route choice, which I thought might save some time (and looking at it now really wouldn't have...), cost me at least a minute... Clean run would have seen me under the hour and close to 6mins/k

Map was variable to say the least, especially in the use of the undergrowth screen which could be there when there was nothing on the floor, and not there when the brambles were 2 feet high...

Overall, TVOC were second overall to Southdowns when we left, and I was about 10 minutes down on a certain Mats Haldin. (who I guess was just "jogging" round...)

Orienteering 32:39 [4] ** 4.82 km (6:46 / km) +150m 5:52 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

TVOC/BKO Local Event, Bloom Wood. Lt Green course, generally quite good but was dragged by the downhills and green a couple of times, and confused slightly by an expanded fence. Still a really nice runnable area, probably at its best this time of year. Last time I was here was the UK Cup race two years ago, mins/km were quite similar then, just need to make the running feel easier/smoother now.

Note

Woke up this morning with pain in the calf muscle, it cramped up before went to bed last night but eased off quickly and so didn't think much of it then. Didn't seem to mind being run on today, hopefully just a temporary thing...
