Orienteering 1:15:00 [2]

Trains on Shotover - time is long as quite a bit of waiting around between sets. Pushed it fairly hard when running, was caught by Chris when hanging the first of my sets in the vague clearings, took time to move it as thought wasn't right. Then second set was fine. Caught Per a couple of times when chasing and he was hanging (well he wasn't going anywhere ;) ). Physically didn't feel too bad but only short efforts - quite a bit of uphilling and downhilling got the legs going, and occasionally there was some contouring practice. Good training exercise, was far smoother through the controls than last week, whether that's local knowledge I don't know...
Run - off road warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Run along the top of Shotover and back through the woods to give the other groups doing trains a bit of time to get ahead. We overtook one of them later so didn't make much difference... Initially didn't feel great uphilling, even on the short stretches.

'Prologue' of what could have been a chasing sprint, but the second activity turned out to be a snowball fight...
Overshot the first control then didn't see the flag, was sure I was in the right place for #4 (even if the map/ground were very vague in that area), started running up the wrong stream to #6 but twigged fairly quickly, but added another 10m or so of climb. Had to correct on the way to #12 as well, but generally felt far better about my orienteering than I did this time last week.
Went back out to check #4 afterwards, reckoned it was hung about 20m away from where it should have been but you can't really blame anyone when the map is so vague.
Cycling 20:00 [3]
From home, up Morrell Avenue to Shotover. Walked the bike up the Shotover hill... Morrell Avenue still feels an effort, but the bike really is crap and I should make a decent effort to get a new one this week...
