Note

A few days off to rest the injury, especially with the British coming up. Doing M21L there, which is 12.2km, 400m climb - only 2k less than the elite (which I was considering at one point...)

Might do some mapping of local patches of woodland in between project write-up, so I can do a bit of off-road running and technical training this vac.

Note

Supposed to be training on Tarn Hows in the Lake District, but a bit too much snow. So instead there was much throwing of snowballs, trying to roll gianormous balls of snow down a hill and construction and use of sledging runs :)

OUOC Training, Docharn and Deishar

Another fantastic area, fast coniferous forest. Map memory pairs exercise with Olli, simplification worked well on the whole. Then a contouring/slope/technical areas exercise, again in pairs and talking it through. "Downhill" race to get back to the bus, then a mini sprint race - hung one control in the wrong place as had been drawn incorrectly on my map, then had a "come back to exactly the same place, go a bit further and see the control second time" error running the course to lose at least 4 mins. 18:30 for the sprint course otherwise, with one other mistake, hit a good speed and flow after the mistake as was very annoyed with myself.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [3]

Loch Vaa training with OUOC - will elaborate at a later date.

Morning - hung line course and some of the control pick, ran control pick and then picked up line course controls by attempting to go straight.

In the afternoon a long legs compass bearing exercise in the vaguely contoured coniferous forest, drifted right far too much and there was very little to go off in places. Then a race with the EMIT kit, shade over 30 mins for 3k with one big mistake (about 4 mins), stakes v. hard to see and must have passed within 20m of the control.

Fantastic area, and some good training!
