Orienteering race 1:27:00 [3]
shoes: Ice Bug

Decided to head south since all the 60 point controls were clustered together. Almost everyone had the same thought as I did.

Trail run to 32 and 48 and 64... all controls just off trail so not much of a mental workout. More trail running to grab 65. Then the trail south looked somewhat indistinct to me so I headed back up the trail toward 64. Took another south trail leading right to 63.

First mistake.... wondering if the lean-to is mapped on the wrong corner of the intersection??? So I headed south and realizing my mistake, headed directly east down the hill through the open woods. Could see Eric in the distance heading south. Hit the trail and headed south but Must have missed the intersection taking me to 62. Kept going south thinking I'd see the intersection any second.

I didn't, but surprisingly did see Stina coming south behind me so had renewed hope.... we kept going .... right off the map! Turned around, headed north and got to our trail junction.

Ran with Stina the rest of the way basically...Decided 61 was next and slogged my way through the muddy trail... bushwhacked NW through some green to the steam leading to 61. Lots of scrapes...

Trail run to 41... almost ran right by it. Headed to 58. Never saw the short trail on the right that would have gotten us closer. Bushwhacked again and finally found the steam and the control.

Headed NE to get the trail to 56 and 57. Then back up a muddy trail to 39. Hopped the steam and wondered where Stina was going. Unfolded the map and saw 54 so decided to grab one more. Got stopped by an older couple driving by asking what I was up to... chatted for a few seconds and took off.

would have liked to grab 55 but was afraid of losing one of my 60 point controls for possibly being overtime. Only had a few minutes left, so it was a good choice.
