Orienteering race 16:15 [5] 3.3 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

My word I paid for yesterday's big effort today! I got around the course slowly but steadily making only the occasional small hesitation. The speed and strength just wasn't there today and on the leg going straight up a grass hill I contemplated walking but thought that the pride of the M21 class required me to do better than that. Duncan Currie came through beating all but 1 of the m21 competitors today which was both impressive and a sign of the fatigue in the legs of the whole m21 field. I believe I ended up 3rd today 5 seconds down on Macey (after losing 6 seconds not going the correct way to th finish control!) And about a minute down on Andrew Barnett who is a great sprint runner on his day.

So I'm very happy with the weekend overall having picked up a 2nd place overall. First time I'll be collecting a badge for anything orienteering related since I was 16! Glad that I'm improving and I can still see areas where I can make massive improvements which is very motivating.

Orienteering race (QB3 day 2) 1:17:04 [4] 13.3 km (5:48 / km)

Day 2 a long one on a new map. Reminded me of oaky creek a little bit. Started 1 minute behind josh and a minute in front of macey which meant really made me not want to get caught. I caught Josh at #3 after pushing it pretty hard over the hill to make up th e distance. Ran together till 9 and then I made a couple of minor mistakes on 10 and 11 opening the door for Alex "Bonk Man" Massey to catch up which he did. But out of 12 I went straight and Macey went left and was never seen again. I caught Andy Hill on route to 14 and we ramped up the pace for the last few controls into the finish.

Would have really really loved a gel out there as I was cramping pretty bad towards the end. Got 3rd on the day approx 5 mins down on Shep (who had to slow down at the end due to rolling that problem ankle of his towards the end) and 19 seconds down on James Sheldon who must have been shifting through the terrain. Macey came back looking worse for wear but explained to us after a gatorade and some food that he had hit the wall on the way to 13. Really happy with the run today, only a couple areas where I lost any time and it was usually less than 30 seconds. A 2:45 lead over 3rd place for the overall badge with a sprint yet to come meant I couldn't paint the town red quite yet.

Orienteering race (QB3 day 1) 38:26 [4] 4.8 km (8:00 / km)

Guess who's back with a brand new log, and I don't mean log as in...

Anyway! I haven't been logging because I haven't had my garmin charger chord which has meant no data for runs which makes for a boring log.

QB3 day 1 on a brand new map. First time I've done sand dunes in over a decade almost so this was all really interesting to me. Took it out super slow and careful with the aim of having a solid but not blistering run and minimising errors. Turned out exactly as I planned which was a really pleasant surprise. I was a long ways off Shep but I'm glad to be in the neighborhood! Was competitive with everyone else and didn't get beaten by any of the old men of the sport. I loved the feeling of always having something to think about and having such low visibility and hard running.
