Orienteering race (Easter Day 1 ) 51:54 [4] **** 6.8 km (7:38 / km) +210m 6:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

Played it very safe today slowing down a lot coming into controls and stopping at every control to plan the next leg. I think I need a few solid results like today's to build confidence and start getting more control flow. Things to work on include general fitness and fine nav in the circle, as well as keeping the high map reading frequency when tired. I've noticed I don't read the map as much when I'm tired, so I usually drop a lot of time late on in the course. General fitness wise, I have sooo far to go, and I dropped a lot of time on almost dead running legs today. Happy with today though, I was up with the rest of the stingers, and I feel like I have potential to be a lot faster with just a few tweeks here and there as well as more time training.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 3.5 km (7:09 / km)
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

Note

Calf is feeling heaps better today after the run. Yesterday it almost felt like I couldn't run at all but now almost pain free. Whatever this niggle is it seems to respond to punishment.

Fastest split on the finish shoot. I'll take the victories where I can.

Event: #NIN3DAYS

Orienteering race 19:59 [4] 3.8 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

I actually have a theory that someone has put a curse on me so that I can't ever finish an orienteering race without making a completely retarded mistake which ruins my race. For evidence of this, look at every orienteering race I have ever done.. fuuuuuuuuuuuck

Note

Left shin is has been hurting a little for the last few weeks but it seemed to elevate in pain after Sunday's race :/ So I've taken the whole week off and I'm hoping that I'll be able to make it through Easter without too much pain. Not sure what it is, could be shin splints?

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Running race (GVMC) 54:13 [4] 10.9 km (4:58 / km) +520m 4:01 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

The Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge, a mountain run up Mount Canobolas which this year hosted the NSW Mountain Running Championships. I haven't run this race since I was 18, so I was interested to see how I would compare to the time I did back then.

Turns out I'm a bit over a minute faster than I was back then. It must be noted that that performance was achieved with almost no running training... which means that 23 year old Robert with 3 months of solid running training behind him is 1 minute faster than 17/18 year old Robert who just sat in on the couch watching TV. I'm looking forward to seeing what a year of solid running/orienteering training can do to my time in this race. I don't think shaving 5 minutes off this time by 2017 would be unrealistic, which would put me well up there with this year's winners.

Not for the first time in the GVMC I was beaten by a girl, meaning I was the 8th Male and 9th overall. The winner this year was somewhere in the 49 minutes, well down on Marty Dent's 2015 time which I believe was around 45 minutes.
