Orienteering race (The Range (Minor Event)) 37:10 [4] **** 6.4 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

First Minor event of the year. Hot as already by the time I started at 10. Had to draw the courses so my quickroute is going to be a bit hard to decipher (I also had to do an awful lot of stretching to make things fit, not sure what up with that). First 3/4 of the course was awesome for me and almost 100% happy with it but after that it all went to shit in urine town and I made I think about 4 minutes total of errors. Just pulling up short of controls and not being confident to keep running. I should have just kept running... I knew in the back of my head that I was going in the right direction I don't really know why I stopped and fiddled around. Had another chat with Rob Vincent. Good ideas a plenty.

Got done by Steve Craig by 6 seconds. This situation must be rectified :D

Minor Event 1 The Range

Note

Tried uploading my GPS onto routegadget manually but it wasn't fitting so I tried going back and choosing splits based, but somehow by clicking cancel I actually clicked ok, now I have a really crazy GPS track on routegadget and I can't get rid of it. I've put a correct version of the track up about 3 times but it seems to persist with the first version that went up. How do I delete that initial track?

Running (Recovery Run) 40:29 [3] 8.23 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Just a recovery run to get some blood flowing after yesterday's effort. Forgot it was Saturday, which, if you're running along the foreshore means hundreds of morbidly obese plebeians walking along the wide footpath just bumbling along doing their best to block everyone behind them.

Running long (Sugarloaf Range Road) 1:39:49 [3] 20.0 km (4:59 / km) +527m 4:25 / km
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

Long Run. I have a really bad habit of just going out training in the middle of the bloody day. Really did not pay off today. Point of this run is to get the body ready for a long, possibly hilly period of running for Easter and NSW longs. Had a couple issues at first with the terraclaws but changed the lacing up and was sweet after that. Feet are a little bit sore now, and I've got a few cramps happening but overall I think the day was a romping success. A few more of these before Easter and everything should come up Milhouse.

I am now a holder of some of the least contested strava KOM's on the planet. Easy pickings for whoever wants to give it a go.

Good luck to all the Stingers going to Melbourne :D Go beat those international imports :P

Orienteering race (Night-O speers point) 21:54 [4] 5.07 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Night-o at speers point. I feel like the mistakes I made were really rookie errors because we just don't do night-o enough in Australia. Compass becomes very important at night because it's so easy to lose your internal sense of direction which happened to me a couple times. Lost quite a bit of time on a bit of garden bed mapped as not garden bed. Got very confused. Macey caught me then we ran together. My strategy of starting out slow and building probably isn't the best with someone starting a minute behind!

Slowed down in the complex playground area at the end because I knew sprinting through there could only lose time really. Kicked a possum who ran right in front of me in the finish shoot. I think it was fine though.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running intervals (Tuesday Intervals) 53:00 [3] 7.9 km (6:43 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Tuesday night track intervals. 12 * 300m. Felt pretty good tonight. Maybe recovery was a bit long for some of the intervals, I'll have to look into it. Pretty consistently around the 50 second mark for the 300m. Calves a little sore afterwards.

Highlight of the season tomorrow... Night-O Champs.

After looking at the maps and distances for Easter and NSW long champs I'll definitely be needing to be doing some 20kmish runs in the next couple weeks
