Orienteering race (5 days day 5 mount brown.) 1:19:18 [4] 7.5 km (10:34 / km)
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Yyyyeeepp. Another frustrating run which showed glimpses of potential amongst a few awful controls.

I actually enjoyed the map and running on it felt very satisfying at times. But Mount Brown giveth and Mount Brown taketh away, and so it was after 4 very smooth controls wth good plans and solid attackpoints that control 5 happened. I was in the odd position at number 5 of knowing exactly where I was, but not being able to see the control feature. I relocated several times to make absolutely sure I was in the right spot. Ended up going a bit (lot) further down the hill to see if I could get lucky and find it. And there it was. Mocking me... dunno if I was just wrong or what. After that my head was not in the right place and I found it really hard to motivate myself to read the map and plan legs.

Xmas 5 days was really fun and I'm jealous of the maps that NT have at their disposal! Really well run and enjoyable event. I would just love to get out of this rut of making 1-4 errors on every course which cost me huge time.

Orienteering (Control picking up) 15:00 [2] 1.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Just picking up controls, enjoyed being able to navigate without being in a race mindset. Once again super enjoyable map. I don't envy the task of keeping the blackberry vegetation mapped accurately!

Orienteering race (Xmas 5 days day 4 ) 58:34 [4] 7.5 km (7:49 / km) +110m 7:17 / km
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Well I enjoyed the map today. It was a fun area to orienteer in. I just don't seem to be able to complete a course without just a few controls where I leave without any plan, and end up in the middle of some rocks trying to relocate and wasting huge amounts of time. I've figured out over the past couple of days that when I do set myself a rigid attackpoint and route I almost always spike the control and have a competitive time. Frustrating yet there is a glimmer of hope that I will one day manage to cut down those costly errors. Tomorrow I've decided after some sound advice from Coach Macey that I'll spend at least 10 seconds at each control to formulate a proper plan before running anywhere. It's a step backwards but I think I have some bad habits that need to be unlearned.

Orienteering race (five days day 3) 1:37:00 [4] ***** 8.0 km (12:08 / km) +200m 10:47 / km
shoes: Salomon s-lab

I swear I'm not a retard most of the time. No I reserve it for when I pick up a map. Actually ran OK for 90% of the course today, but I just made some huge errors and struggled to relocate. Just for once I want to have a run without so many errors!

Orienteering race (Xmas 5 days day 2) 1:03:31 [4] 6.7 km (9:29 / km)

Really struggled to get into the map. Made so many little 1 minute-2 minute duck ups. Also physically just didn't have it. Went through the gorge too which was an awful decision!

Orienteering (Xmas 5 days sprint) 17:59 [5] *** 3.5 km (5:08 / km)

Messed up a little at the start trying to find the start triangle and then fumbled around an uncrossable fence which cost me time. Rest of the course was fairly smooth with the occasional going down a curvy ramp instead of straight stairs. Struggled a looot physically as I had to run fairly quickly to the start to make my start time and I wasn't that fit to start with. Enjoyed it though

Running (Tempo) 33:36 [4] 7.5 km (4:29 / km) +91m 4:13 / km

Had dinner and felt like a fat shit so I went for a run. Calves seem to be actually holding up on the hills. Yay!

Running (Long/Tempo) 1:02:43 [3] 13.8 km (4:33 / km)

5 days coming up soon! So I thought I'd log some training! I've been doing a few very easy runs like this, trying to overcome my weird lower calf/Achilles running injury issues.

This was the first time I was able to run over 10km without having to have a break because of the gradual pressure/pain buildup in my achilles. Maybe the stretching I've been doing has been helping? We'll see if I hold up when some elevation is introduced during the 5 days. Looking forward to it!
