Got in my workout before our trip to Lawrence for the family Christmas. Busy gym with some serious work-outers. Lots of dynamic moves which, hopefully, will give me more power and make me faster.

A relaxing walk with Elray at Watkins Mill. We went over the dam, and I saw a huge hawk on a tree below the dam. We walked to the end of the swim beach, which was almost exactly 2 km, then turned around and walked back. Gazillions of geese. It was 34 degrees when we left, and 50 when we got back to the car.

This hardly counts as a workout, but it was still really cold, and my nose, toes, and fingers were all cold as well. Both entrances to Mack Porter were closed, so I parked outside at the substation, and we walked in, and walked around the ball fields.

We started off with foot agility drills, but had a few new wrinkles. I did some with a band around the knees, then holding a bar overhead. A lot of the weights included balance. The heaviest today was twenty pound dumbbells. We ended with pulling the sled. Again, a new wrinkle. The sled was tethered with a couple of bands, and I didn't walk backwards. I just got to tension, and pulled, keeping my feet in place. Back to the usual time next week.

Last workout of the year. This week's CHOW: a squat jump followed by a double punch on the bag. I did 111. That felt good.

Note

I got a body fat calculating scale at Aldi a couple of weeks ago. It was on closeout and really cheap--under $10. I finally read the directions yesterday and got it set up. So my weight was 125.6 and my body fat was 33.7% . Boo hoo. Thirty years ago it was 19%. This is supposed to be normal for my age, but I'd rather be abnormal. Anyway, I set my target weight at 120. Last time I lost five pounds (last year?) I did a bunch of HIIT.

We went to Watkins Mill. Brutal wind across the dam, so we went counter-clockwise and stayed mostly in the woods. I found my heavier gloves (it pays to clean) and my hands felt much better.
