After recycling, took Elray on the riverside walk. We had planned on going to the wastewater treatment plant and back, because that is a total of two miles, and my knee gets uncomfortable after a half mile or so. When we got to the road in back of the high school, there was a lot of heavy machinery and a huge pile of dirt. On the other side of the street was more large earth-moving stuff, two police cars, and a bunch of guys. We walked down to where the trail separates from the road to the treatment plant, and they had a sign up that the road was closed. We walked to the treatment plant and back (and Elray was doing a good job of walking with me) and they were digging up the road on the north side of the trail/road split. One guy on a huge backhoe, and five guys watching him. They had totally cratered the road out, so we had to go back and walk across the weed patch to a dead end street, then half a mile before a road that actually crossed the ditch (today a creek). Up a block, then 1/2 mile back to our trail. I'd wondered why it was in the low seventies, overcast with a light breeze, and we only saw one guy in a recumbent tricycle on the trail. Anyway, more of a workout than I wanted, but my leg didn't hurt any more than a two mile walk.
