Note

We got back from vacation last Saturday night. Saturday morning in Duluth for Grandma's marathon was 50 degrees, and it didn't go up much from there for the rest of the day. We were cold, without jackets, and wearing two shirts. Then on to northern Wisconsin, where some places between Duluth and Hayward had received 18 inches of rain over two days. It took out several roads and bridges, which curtailed some of our travels. Mostly I just rested, and enjoyed the cool weather and wonderful breakfasts. We decided one day to see the waterfalls at their peak, and I walked somewhere between 7 and 8 miles, up and down hills on the Doughboy trail,, and others. Beautiful location. Hard to come back here after the cooler weather and wonderful air quality.

9Round 32:00 [3]
ahr:105 max:120 shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

I haven't been feeling too good, and I think it's just the heat. But still a good workout. Battle ropes on the first round, and 100 squat pulses on the eighth. My quads were burning.

Dog Walking 16:55 [1] 1.05 km (16:07 / km) +1m 16:02 / km

The weather felt much better than the last two days, so I took Elray to Mack Porter, but we didn't push at all. Still hot, but a nice breeze.

9Round 32:00 [4]
ahr:110 max:129 shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

I had some problems breathing today. I think it is just the heat. We had an extra CHOW--punching the bag while doing high knees. I got 246. Lots of plank stuff.

Workout 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

Workout with my trainer. I did three trips the length of the gym pushing the sled down and pulling it back. What I did really well today was the balance stuff. I was rock solid on all my balance work. I don't think I've ever done this as well before.

A tough one today. Any time I do the Ali shuffle, it really puts my heart rate up there.

9Round 32:00 [4]
ahr:112 max:139 shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

Back at 9Round, and I could tell it had been about a week and a half. But still felt good. Today's CHOW was three minutes of alternating hits on the bag while in pushup position. I did 156.

other 1:45 [3]

Aerobic berry picking while pruning and pulling weeds. The blueberries were challenging, but the blackcaps were a labor of love.

Then I came in to scrub off the ticks, chiggers, and poison ivy. The hot water heater must have quit, so I had a very unpleasant cold shower.

Workout 1:00:00 [3]

i saw my trainer today, and we started again where we had to stop a few weeks ago, because I wasn't functional. Back to the heavier weights and pushing the sled. It all felt really good.

other 1:30:00 [3]

Picking blueberries. Reaching up, ducking down, getting sweaty. Very aerobic.

9Round 32:00 [4]
ahr:114 max:129 shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

Some tough moves today, and stuff we hadn't done before, e.g. man makers. I was feeling good. I talked with the doctor's office yesterday, and they have no idea why I was having multiple joint pains. No arthritis, no autoimmune, no Lyme. One inflammation marker was slightly elevated, but I'm good. I just don't want this to happen again, since we don't know what it was and why it went away.

Dog Walking 19:17 [3] 1.43 km (13:29 / km) +9m 13:04 / km
ahr:109 max:156 shoes: INOV-8 Trail Talon 225

A beautiful day, lower humidity and a nice breeze. We went to Mack Porter and walked through some of the ball fields, most of the woods loop, and back on the one-way road. We saw no other people or dogs enjoying the great weather.
11 AM

other 1:15:00 [4]

Aerobic weeding. I weeded down the rows of Bob's corn, and it was a real mess. Lots of grass.

Training a new trainer at 9Round today. The CHOW was number of air hits with weights. I took it easy to not stress my shoulders, and did 188.

Motala at Gage Park, hosted by OK. Lots of fun, with some tricky controls, typical of Fritz. Since there were three loops, and all went through the playground area, it was important to check control codes. My only mistake, but a large one, was on the second control on the middle length course. I must have lost focus, and ended up at the third control on the long, and had to relocate. This probably cost me five minutes. My problem was on the middle course, and I was using my clue sheet, which didn't have the numbers for the middle and long. By the long, I got smart enough not to use the clue sheet, and instead rely on the clues on the map.

It was 100 day at 9Round. I made my 100 on seven of them, but decided not to do the exercise at Round 7. Staying in pushup position and hitting the overhead bag. Too many shoulder problems for that right now. I substituted donkey kicks. But I made a good effort on the rest of it.

Saw my trainer today. We did lots of upper body work with bands and the TRX, and lots of balance stuff too. Not using heavy weights until I find out what's wrong with me. I am feeling really good, and went for a massage after the workout.

The main trail at Jesse James done counter-clockwise. It was early enough in the morning for the weather to be pleasant. No running today. I'm saving it for the treadmill this afternoon. The only residual from yesterday is that my left hand still won't close into a fist.

The ER doctor from yesterday wanted me to have a stress test, so I did. I passed my target rate, so I think I'm ok, but I will find out for sure on Friday when I see my doctor. And I really want to talk with her about this joint problem I'm having. The 12 minutes includes the cool down time while they were taking my blood pressure, etc.

Note
(sick)

This has been a very bad, horrible day. My left wrist was hurting last night, and I couldn't close my fingers. Then I woke up around 1 am, with the pain radiating all up the left arm. And it really hurt. I moved to the living room, tried to sleep, read a while, tried to sleep, played a few games of solitaire, tried to sleep. Around 3 am I suddenly felt really bad all over--hot--naseous, and horrible, so I went back to the bedroom and woke Bob up, and don't remember after that. I came to laying in the hall. He said I was out about 5 minutes, and he wasn't sure I was breathing, but he had already called 911. We both got some clothes on, and the ambulance arrived with about 5 guys, and they brought me to Liberty Hospital. My arm was swollen and red. We got out of the hospital after 6 am, and Elray had a spa appointment in Liberty at 0800. Bob had brought her along, so she was in the car, and we went to breakfast at the Corner Cafe. Then dropped her off and came home. I had called my doctor's office right at 0800, and had to go in at 1015, feeling very good about being able to drive myself. After a few more hours there, and more blood-letting, I drove home and took a nap. My wrist is still sore (but infinitely better) and I have to go in for a stress test tomorrow. I did skip 9Round today, and plan to get my exercise tomorrow on the treadmill.

9Round 32:00 [4]
ahr:110 max:128 shoes: INOV-8 Alltrain 215

Back at 9Round for the first time in about a week. I didn't do the CHOW, which was jumping rope with high knees, and I didn't do the plank-ups, because I didn't want that much pressure on my shoulders. I did do some other plank stuff and managed to do everything else without straining my shoulders too much.

The other good thing is that we finally got our internet restored. Its been unavailable since Friday morning.
6 PM

Yoga 1:15:00 [0]

Restorative.

After finally getting a great night's sleep and no pain Sunday and most of today, late this afternoon my left wrist started hurting and I can't close my hand. So now we are up yo both shoulders and both wrists.

Dog Walking 42:33 [3] 3.23 km (13:10 / km) +26m 12:40 / km
ahr:104 max:141 shoes: INOV-8 Trail Talon 225

Went to Watkins Mill with Elray, and we walked in the woodsy part out and back. Mostly we kept up a pretty good pace. I got home to log, and the internet was still down. This is the fourth time in three days that they have missed their target to have it fixed, so I am doing this in the library.

Still a big sore, but I can again make a fist with the right hand and raise the left arm over my head. What's next?

Note

Met Dick and Nick for the at the YHEC state champs. We ran the orienteering event. This year I made up a written test, similar to what they would have at nationals, to add to their compass work in the field. Last year, a boy from Kansas took second place, and probably would have won had he had some experience with map reading. My left shoulder and right hand were messed up from whatever it is that I have.

After recycling, Elray and I walked at the Riverfront trail to the road and back. I'm feeling a bit better.
