9Round 30:00 [5]

This was a really hard day. It included burpees at all nine stations, with progressively more with each station. Station 6 had reverse burpees, which I found slightly easier, and Station 9 was a killer with burpees including front rows with weights. It was a three-alarmer for me.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Today's intensity was more like a 4.5. My burpees and mountain climber form is definitely improving.
4 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Workout with Jared. Moved up to 20-lb weights for some of my arm exercises, and made six round trips of the gym with sled. Today the sled had 70 lb piled on. The sled always reminds me of trying to power up the hills.

9Round 30:00 [4]

I thought I was doing well, working hard, but not dying, until the last round. Staying in plank position, with 20 right hand up to touch the wall, 20 left hand to touch the wall, then 20 plank supermans, then repeat until the end of three minutes. I was sweating so much, I had sunscreen in my eyes.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Lots of focus on abs today. Lots of different types of planks, crunches, etc.

Orienteering race 1:27:17 [4] ** 3.9 km (22:23 / km)
spiked:10/10c

Worked registration at the Longview Lake meet, and left around 11 to do the middle course. With the rain and the frost coming out of the ground, it was very slick and muddy. I forgot to put on my O shoes, but it was so slippery, that wouldn't have helped very much, and most of the controls were in deep reentrants or ravines. We also crossed a lot of creeks where you had to climb down a muddy bank, and then back up another muddy Yes, I was covered in mud. Navigation was good, although I could have made a better route choice to the last control. I went around to avoid climbing up and down another bank, which was somewhat futile, when already covered in mud, and having sunk in the mud up to my ankles. Mud and all, it was fun.

Orienteering (Course setting) 4:00:00 [3]

Put out tapes with control numbers for my March 8 event at Weston Bend.
Took five hours altogether, but some of the time was spent driving around to different parking areas. The warm weather melted the snow and brought the frost out of the ground, so some areas were really muddy and slick. Beautiful weather--it was very enjoyable.

Challenging, but I managed to do all the stations without modifying today.

Dog Walking 35:00 [2] 1.3 mi (26:55 / mi)

Beautiful day with sunshine and 67 degrees. That's been rare lately. I had a shot today after 9Round, and am not supposed to exercise, but a little walk around the block with ElRay seemed to be the thing to do.

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with Jared. My legs are really tired from slogging through snow yesterday.
11 AM

9Round 30:00 [4]

After a little shopping, I went to kickboxing class. My legs felt like jelly before I finished.

Orienteering race 1:58:22 [4] ** 3.7 km (31:59 / km)
spiked:11/12c shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

Orienteer Kansas event at Rockhaven. Lots of snow on the ground and lots of hills made for a slow slog for me. I navigated really well, although some of the trails were so snowed in, you couldn't tell they were there. I messed up on leg 5 to 6--went right by it, but couldn't see the rocks for the snow. Went too far west, had to turn around and relocate. I had one fun, on purpose, slide down the hill on the snow. Good time, good course.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Feeling pretty strong today, until I got to plank T's with pushups.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Lots of pushups today--my chest is burning.

9Round 30:00 [5]

This was a kick-my-butt day.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with Jared. Got to push the sled tonight, and ended up with pull through planks.

Tuesday Feb 11, 2014 #

9Round 30:00 [4]

Lots of balance stuff today, like jab/cross standing on one leg. Hardest was having legs on an exercise ball and using legs to pull ball to chest and back.

Monday Feb 10, 2014 #

9Round 30:00 [4]

Several different types of moves today. I did well on the balance-core work at the last station. Also, I don't like them any better, but I think my form doing burpees is getting better.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Intense, but not the killer we had last Saturday.

9Round 30:00 [4]

Back to 9Round after three days off for the snow and ice. Not too bad today, but still had Burpees and lots of mountain/rock climbers.

Wednesday Feb 5, 2014 #

3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with Jared. We finished off with four sets of the ropes. Ouch!

Monday Feb 3, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 30:00 [4]

The last station today was to hold plank position for the entire three minutes, and every time you went to your knees you had a three burpee penalty. I hate burpees, but could only hold for a little over two minutes, so I did one round of burpees and finished up with my plank.

Orienteering 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

OK/PTOC Training day. We did five different excercises in the woods, plus a couple of hours of discussions (not included in training) about the courses, route choices, common mistakes, etc. Used different types of maps, such as contour only, and one with everything blanked out except for the controls. Cold and snow on the ground, but it was lots of fun. Good mix of activities. Many thanks to Spike and maprunner for getting this together.
