O'France, Day 1, WRE "sprint" @ Mont Dauphin, an 17th-century fortress on a high bluff surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides. Quite a poor and unrepresentative result for me, as I was fried from jet lag and my legs were absolutely lifeless. I also failed to read the course notes regarding the importance of tunnels, so I didn't notice three tunnel route choices that were clearly better than my choices. A comically dismal 50th place, out of some 70 competitors in M21E. Still, a fun experience.

"Ten Hills of Kirkland" informal (i.e. free) group ride put on by the Cascade Bicycle Club, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cascade Orienteering Club (unbeknownst to them). This was my first time doing one of these so I wasn't sure what to expect; the ride was labeled "Vigorous (18-20 mph)" so I was a bit nervous about getting dropped by everyone on the uphills, but it turned out there was one guy who was usually decisively slower than me and 2-3 others who I could generally keep with including the ride leader (out of a total of nine guys). In addition, the distance didn't trouble me much - a successful outcome all around.
