Orienteering race 2:50:25 [3] *** 22.95 km (7:26 / km) +677m 6:28 / km
29c

Ultimate Orienteer 3hr Score-O @ Teanaway. Cleared the course except for one control that was misplaced, about 150m off according to Bonesaw and Graembo who both managed to find it. I was there with Nikolay and we were pretty sure we were in the right spot so I moved on. Fun course, and the weather turned out well both days. Also, we had a member of the current Tiomila champion club in attendance!

Orienteering race 39:59 [4] *** 6.86 km (5:49 / km) +208m 5:03 / km

Ultimate Orienteer "Classic" @ Lick Creek. One of those races where everything's working - feeling strong, reading ahead well, compass on point. My only error was on 12, when I ran right through the circle without seeing the flag. Must have been wrongsided by a tree or something because Rick said I led him directly into it. Thought I lost ~45s but according to GPS it was more like 1:25, which seems like too much because I was only 1:09 behind J's top split.

Graembo started ~4min ahead of me, but he blew 5 so I ran into him there and punched a little ahead. Caught glances of him afterward but was able to create a little gap till he caught up again when I messed up 12, then we were together until he was a bit off on 15, so I finished ~30s ahead. Overall, the J got me by 9s for the win.

Running 35:17 [3] 4.39 mi (8:02 / mi)

Relaxed run around Redmond Watershed Preserve. Based on effort level felt like I was moving faster than my watch gave me credit for.

Cycling (morning short commute) 19:32 [3] 6.02 mi (18.5 mph) +10m

It seems I am approximately 3-4 pounds too heavy at the moment. I intend to make them go away.

Cycling 18:26 [3] 5.79 mi (18.8 mph) +10m

Running 47:39 [2] 5.24 mi (9:06 / mi) +117m 8:30 / mi

At a friend's invitation I begrudgingly attended one of those running club deals where you cruise around and stop at some bars along the way. I always feel a bit awkward at these things because my brain is trained to equate running with serious, purposeful training, not socializing, and it gets confused when they start blending together. On the positive side I did talk to two or three folks who seemed genuinely interested in trying orienteering. Will they actually ever show up? Probably not. I feel like it takes a person of above-average adventurousness and or extrovertedness to bridge the action gap across the combined barriers of "totally unknown thing" and "won't know anyone there."

Cycling 1:27:42 [3] 25.65 mi (17.5 mph) +306m

Loop up the Interurban to Perkins, down the Burke-Gilman and around to 3rd.

I find it highly distasteful when I'm forced to be serious on AP. I have to be serious all day at work, but at least they pay me for it. Ain't nobody paying me to be serious here. My strong preference is to use AP to make dumb jokes, write silly things on my log, and in general act a fool and have fun. You know, like orienteering is supposed to be. It vexes me when I'm obliged to break from that.

Cycling 40:33 [4] 13.12 mi (19.4 mph) +184m

Maiden voyage around the MI loop. She rides nice! I also decided to pick up some of those weird butt-shorts that I've never had before, the ones with the butt padding. They seem pretty cool. One more step toward impersonating a real cyclist. I got passed by this one dude who was seriously hauling. His bike was not even a color. It was literally chrome. Looked like the same material they made the T-1000 out of.

TBT to that time I randomly showed up and rekt the BG #WestCoastreppin
