Sierra Classic 2015 Day 1 - sprint

25 Days of SARTember, Day 18

Location: Northstar California Resort, Truckee, CA

Well I was planning this to be the world premiere of Willvision but I apparently left my new GoPro on at some point and it ran out of batteries, so the vid consists of two minutes of standing at the start line bsing with people. Which means none of y'all get to see how the magic happens...yet. Good news is I wore it on my dome all race and it didn't bug me so we're g2g for trial #2. However, I am reluctant to use either of the next two days for said trial, so it might have to be the SART time trial.

Oh, there was also a race. Nothing really interesting happened; found all the controls, lost some seconds on 19 and on 20. Felt the altitude. I was going to run this easy since it's irrelevant to the US champs, but I'm wholly incapable of consciously not going full speed.

25 Days of SARTember, Day 17

Location: Still home

Assorted insider tidbits from this evening's Cascade OC board meeting:

- With a week to go, the maps are nearly mapped; the courses are nearly designed; the port-a-potties are nearly ordered.
- The organizing staff is assembled and standing ready.
- The ISSOM Woodland Park map is quite dissimilar to the current version.
- The championship course is "fantastic." It will also be forked, but may be the only forked round.
- The time trial at Green Lake will be ~1.4km.
- You'll get fun stickers to put on your bib that will also tell you which is your next race.

We attempted to wheedle more info out of our sources, but they've got this thing locked down tight. No one's talking and nothing's going in or out until zero hour.

25 Days of SARTember, Day 15

Location: Home

Today, a short discussion on a mundane yet performance-affecting question: What will the weather be like for SART? Well, I'm glad you asked. Here are the historic temperature averages for September 26 and 27 in Seattle:

9/26 High 67F / 19C, Low 51F / 11C
9/27 High 67F / 19C, Low 50F / 10C

Here are the recorded extremes for same:

9/26 High 77F / 25C, Low 45F / 7C
9/27 High 78F / 26C, Low 43F / 6C

And here is the current 2015 forecast, ten days out:

9/26 High 62F / 17C, Low 49F / 9C "Showers"
9/27 High 62F / 17C, Low 49F / 9C "Partly Cloudy"

So, with temps on the cooler side of the established range, it appears that our lovely 2015 Seattle summer will be over by then, but the weekend will still be comfortable, if not necessarily warm. Certainly, it will be a bit chilly in the morning. And, if it rains, we in Cascade have a motto that I just made up: "Seattle orienteering: Better when it's wetter."

On the whole, excellent running weather!
