Running 16:07 [3] 2.16 mi (7:28 / mi) +50m 6:58 / mi

Journey to the haircut store, where I purchased one haircut for myself.

Running 40:42 [3] 5.59 mi (7:17 / mi) +30m 7:10 / mi

Easy loop around Bridle Trails and Watershed. Felt quite good for some reason despite soreness in the legs. At one point two small yappy dogs busted out of somebody's yard and started chasing me down the street, so just for fun I decided to see if I could outrun them. Nope.

It's getting to be so a guy can't even go for an afternoon constitutional around here without being marauded by hordes of diminutive four-legged hellions.

I failed miserably to hit either my mileage or time goal this week, which is pretty unacceptable.

Also, I always enjoy reading the logs of people who've just run in the US Ultralong Champs. There's a common theme.

Orienteering race 45:51 [5] 5.2 mi (8:49 / mi) +80m 8:25 / mi

A bit of a organizational debacle, unfortunately. Nikolay and others weren't aware the course was trails-only, and thus shaved large chunks of time cutting off-trail at some of the many easy and tempting opportunities, while Eric was stymied by a misplaced control. Not at all a fairly competed race.

Other than that, always fun to run at a venue I've never been to before. Interestingly, Eric and I would have finished in a virtual dead heat if not for the misplaced control, despite several radically different route choices.

UPDATE: Incredibly, it turns out the course designers themselves thought there was no off-trail prohibition, which makes a lot of sense because the course strongly tempted any half-sane orienteerer with minimal experience to cut through at several points.

Running 1:01:32 [3] 7.5 mi (8:12 / mi) +100m 7:53 / mi

Officially time to break out the tights, gloves, hat, and headlamp, since I feel like it will be cold forever and never be warm again now that it's below 40 degrees. Not sure what this says about me.

Also, look how symmetrical my last seven days of training are!
