Running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Ran the Grade 5 referee test on Saturday, which consisted of six 40m sprints in <6.4s followed by 10 laps of the track where you run 40 sets of 75m in <17s and get a break while you walk to 25m to the next start. For me this amounted to a languid jog; I had almost broken a sweat and started breathing harder than normal by the time my group finished.

As competitive orienteers we are always consciously or subconsciously comparing ourselves to our peers and worrying about our own performance - am I faster than X, how will Y do today, I wish I was fitter - but speaking for myself at least, I know that being healthy and able-bodied is something that I often take for granted. It was never guaranteed that I'm able to do the things I do, and it will always continues to not be guaranteed, so it is good to appreciate it.

Having said that, I tweaked something in my hamstring on Saturday which had me a bit worried, but it is already feeling much better. Will give it a few days to get happy again though.
