This Saturday marks the beginning of the 2015-16 Cascade Winter Series season! As such, it's time to preview Four Burning Questions, presented by [your name here].
Will it be a clean Kiwi sweep?
Everyone's favorite ANZAC power couple burst onto the scene in style last year, each coming on strong late to finish in a dead heat for the season title. While Celia claimed first via the tiebreaker, Jourdan had to be content with half a championship. Though they continue to talk funny and erroneously call trails "tracks," this could be their year to double up outright. Possible early obstacle: too much partying after the All-Blacks' rugby victory.
Will Heather make a triumphant return?
Longtime Winter Series stalwart and several-time champion Heather Fourie (née Whitney) took a sabbatical in 2014-15 due to ancillary life issues such as "getting married" and "working hard." As her name once again graces the registration lists, all signs point to a renewed commitment to everlasting rock block glory. If such is indeed the case, she may be the favorite on the women's side.
Will the King of the Winter Series reclaim his throne?
Last year, Eric pulled off a somewhat mind-bending feat, finishing higher at 2015 WOC Team Trials (third) than in the 2014-15 Winter Series (fourth). Bizarre, yet unsurprising in a "that's Eric for you" sort of way. In order to return to title competition, the Bonesaw must once again successfully arrive at a minimum of four start lines within the start window - no mean feat in itself.
Will the Portlanders throw any wrenches into proceedings?
Crocker, Grandjean & McNair - high-powered law firm, or trio of formidable PDX ladies known to spontaneously traverse the I-5 corridor and blow up the results at any given Winter Series event? Whenever these three make an appearance, rest assured that chaos will ensue. If any manage to record four scores, they could even take the championship back to CROC-land with them - surely an ignominy too onerous for Cascaders to contemplate.
