The FIG virtual AR with Angel.

This is such a beautiful area, love returning again and again. Angel and I came down the day after Thanksgiving. Had a couple of prep issues, 1) map board screw broke so I didn't have a map board and companion compass and 2) got a new wheel set (yay! straight wheels!) but forgot to transfer over the sensor (boo!) so my brain was a little catawampus going into it.

We started at 6:30a from the S/F. There was a ton of dampness and fog, so I used my lesser power lights to reduce the light reflection on water droplets. The roads were dampish, which slowed me down--but not Angel!!! Got to TA in good order and looked like the sun was struggling to rise.

Made our way to 21, 22 and then on to 23 Indian Staircase. After assessing the situation decided to go to 23 from the top then 25 and 24. Headed south on a spur that looked like it had a connecting trail at the tip, and seemed cliffed out. Tried a couple of routes down with no luck. Ran the 4ish k back around. Because of a lot of lost time, we new we had to bail on at least 15, 16 qnd 17.

Traversed to TA 3,, and headed to 26, then 27, and 28. The 26 to 27 was a bit accidental and were glad we did do it that way. But had a hard time matching the contour lines on the map with rock face. And, didn't go far enough until we went far enough. :) 28 went fine.

One thing I learned with this was matching scalable and not scalable rock face.

Then we did the cycling to 20, 19 and 18. Then back to S/F and wound up with just the time to do 2 on the O course.

Hard to have race mojo especially after the unexpected impact of the first O. But a glorious day in the Red River Gorge!
