Standard Bart mistake rushing to the 1st control before my head's in the game. Lost 6 minutes on an otherwise straight forward 1minute 1st control. Chasing after drew took the wrong path, and couldn't bearing check as i had no compass.
Apart from that, had a very good run through a lot of the controls with the below exceptions where bigger mistakes occurred 1 - 5mins. don't wanna talk about it. 5 - 30s non-specific attackpoint, and didn't know exactly what the brown x's represented. was in the right area, but not confident enough. 7 - 30s was not courageous enough to navigate through the white, so took a long approach 8 - 3mins took a risk across the white, and lost contact with what trail i was on. couldn't bearing check (no compass) 9 - 30s confused when exiting the control, unsure of east/west.
10:30 of real errors... which is around the difference between me and 2nd place.

Didn't gps it unfortunately but basically got pointed in a different direction to drew by the starter, which threw me off a bit, and I missed 3 of the controls near the start zone. I then had to go back PAST the finish and the start to collect them before finishing. Apart from that, very easy, and no real problems.
A great idea to provide this though, as there's almost no extra cost or effort to put it on, and most people would want a second run i reckon. They should do this at every single event

Shadwell basin 5*1km intervals with 2min rest. Plan on making these a regular fixture again.
Pretty consistent (3:30-3:40) given little corners and loops on some of the legs, but still slowed a little over the workout. Great to get back into the speed work, but a little way to go to get back to a sub-17:30 5km (3:30m/ks)
Also, my max heartrate seems to be doing the opposite of the rule. Over the last 3 years, my max reported heartrate has increased 1bpm each year...

Felt quite smooth (as far as I go), and in comparison to drew was quite consistent through most of the controls, however lost 2 mins on 3 before I realised my compass was SH (I had planned on practicing with it) and then lost 30s at 20 by not ever getting a clear idea of the map scale. Not a great performance, and not running incredibly fast at the moment.
