Note

Fun O meet at Northfield Mountain! Thanks to Jeff and Judy and everyone at NEOC for making it happen, and to Dave for the ride! This was my first time at Northfield Mountain, and I think it's a beautiful venue. I also enjoyed being able to duck indoors for water, food and rest.

I had very mixed results today. The morning course was an epic fail, I wasn't focused and my legs weren't feeling all that great. It's like I forgot how to orienteer. Thankfully, there was an afternoon course and by that point my legs for some reason felt much better, and I was way more focused. I was successfully able to push the speed I normally navigate at, and found all controls without too much difficulty.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

Morning course. I think more pace-counting would have helped.

Orienteering 33:27 [3]

Afternoon course. Much better.

Had fun at the Park O! I was running pretty fast (for me) and had clean navigation for the most part

Orienteering 2:40:00 [3]

Hanging flags with Izzy, control pick, and crazy mass-start. That particular area of Bear Brook is really challenging for me still, but I think I handled it much better this time around.

Note

Had an awesome weekend in NH! Thanks to Alex for organizing! I especially liked the control pick exercises. I noticed on some of the actual courses that I did I would get really close to the control, and then stop due to lack of confidence when I thought that I should have seen it. I would take two steps forward, and then see it. With the control pick courses I was able to practice being confident as I approached the control. Also, I got lots of practice reading crazy contours. All-in-all it was a great way to spend my birthday. And thanks to Giovanni for bringing cake... I didn't realize we shared a birthday!
