Arrived in Finland on Wednesday late at night and went for some night-o around the club hut. Foot extremely sore whenever I stood on it badly and I got pretty worried. Next day I tried again, similar story but slightly better. On Thursday it was fine... How strange.
Then it was Jukola :o
A good first leg from Narbet, or at least good until we asked him how it had gone the next day. "I could have stuck with Jonny but I just really couldn't be arsed trying"-silly boy. Will plodded round on a belly of beer and burgers before Tam had a Stormer to bring us up 50 odd places. Chicken went out in fourth while I got up and ready. After some confusion at the map changeover I went out in around 120th, on the hunt for a top 100 position... Simple first control, fly along the paths for a couple of minutes before a short approach. Four minutes binned in quite a pathetic fashion. Took a very safe route to 2 and continued in this way for fee controls. At about half way I was passed by SNO 6th leg, who's back I proceeded to latch onto and mopped up some good splits, including a 1st on longest leg of the day wowow. Eventually split and I missed another 2 minutes, despite basically standing on the control for the whole duration. From there isn't was solid into the finish, and a pleasant surprise to see that we had climbed to just outside the top 100. Pedley maintained the run of form before Ali burst into the top 100 and brought it home.
A fantastic experience for my first race back after about 20 months. Going surprisingly well at the moment, just need to watch the foot and some fitness might return
