orienteering 38:10 [5] 6.0 km (6:22 / km) +120m 5:47 / km

Set off and Chris caught me quickly. We made multiple mistakes but both made them so I wasn't too bothered about being too disciplined. Either way we were probably going to stay together until a bit of a burn up at the end. I was wrong and managed to miss by about 30 seconds near the end and he got away D:

Felt a bit off but must have been running alright. A few misses cost me the win but pleased with the run regardless!

5 x 1km on the field with a minutes recovery. Was planning on more but was a complete wuss about it. Managed to keep them all under 3:30 but only just. Wind and hills made it tough. Need to get back on it...

cycling 1:00:00 [2]

To Braco and back with a friend. Then home from Dunblane. Lovely evening and good chat.
4 PM

running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.7 km (5:24 / km) +10m 5:20 / km

Met Iain and Daniel for a session around the field next to the house. A bit apprehensive as this is the first session for some months... This is before, after and in between reps.

running intervals 22:10 [5] 6.9 km (3:13 / km) +50m 3:06 / km

First half of the session was 2x1km, 10 min tempo, two minutes between each.
Second half, after about a ten minute break which involved going back to my house to get some water, was 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 all with ~90 seconds break.
All went surprisingly well and was surprised at the speed I managed along the path through the field. The only one I ran bang on the distance according to my garmin was the 400 which was 66. Tempo was just over 3:30 pace with some hills and kms 3:06 and 3:19.

5 PM

running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km) +50m 4:42 / km

A nice easy week over, feeling rejuvenated and hoping for some goof running over the next few weeks. Achilles is feeling good.

Wednesday May 6, 2015 #

7 PM

running 36:40 [5] 8.0 km (4:35 / km) +400m 3:40 / km

Bit slower than last year but there was a mini detour and I got some really grim stomach cramps coming down. Not surprised given the achilles problems. Only solution is to bang out some absolutely filthy training. Let's get it on...

Monday May 4, 2015 #

Note

cycling 25:00 [2]

Riding around thinking that it's summer and forgetting about the upcoming exams. Loving the summer vibes and getting pumped.

orienteering race 1:12:30 [4] 11.0 km (6:35 / km) +300m 5:48 / km

Started not really in the mood for racing and feeling quite tired. Managed to lose about five minutes in the first seven controls and was feeling very tired but managed to up it in the second half whilst still struggling! Made some more stupid mistakes. Feeling borderline hypothermic at the end, good stuff! I think my second half will have held up with the leaders but was too scrappy and tired in the first half to be in chance of a win...
11 PM

running 9:00 [3] 2.1 km (4:17 / km) +20m 4:05 / km

I had forgotten that towards the end of the race today my left glute and hamstring were really limiting my running speed with quite a sharp pain. This reminded me...

Saturday May 2, 2015 #

1 PM

running 2:28:28 [5] 21.0 km (7:04 / km) +1500m 5:13 / km

Stuc A'Chroin hill race. Felt really awful off the start and Purkis dropped me with ease... From there i was just plodding on, trying my hardest to push the downhills. Along the ridge was good but never really felt like I was racing, saying that I am not sure you can get the same feeling on such a long effort... Descended well enough and came back fifth which I was pleased with. Feel like a total wreck now but really glad I did it as it was really enjoyable.

(rest day)

Trying to take it easy... Although an hour and a half climbing this afternoon.
