slept:9.0 (rest day)

Ha! Just spent time searching for my AP log on new format computer to discover it wasn't a formatting problem, it was a 'no entries in last 7 days' problem. To be rectified shortly!
Legs remarkably ok after the JK, a little achy but honestly that's it. So my orienteering results were disappointing, but the body held up well. Went for a lovely long walk in the (freezing) spring sunshine today, lovely public holiday.
Interestingly earned myself the same BOF points for sprint & long. WRE points 492 for sprint and 278 for long. Hardly earth shattering. Still, that's me back on the points board and way way way better than last year, considering my back is no longer in spasm. 740th!! (4th Irish woman, can't see that lasting long).
This is probably the cheeriest result I have from the weekend so I'll end with a :)

Orienteering race (JK Relays) 24:00 [5] 2.97 km (8:05 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Due to long race, and rubbish results, I earned myself the short leg of the women's short. Back to Hambleden again so we knew what we were getting. Attacked from the off, gave it everything, missed one control on the hillside pretty badly but such is the risk. Of course my legs were knackered but I kept running, and it's hard to understate the happiness at actually running past people all the way round (ok, they were in their 60s, but still). Brought us from 26th to 16th place (Steph first leg) and Olivia brought us back in 12th :)

Orienteering race (JK Long (WRE)) 2:01:39 [5] 11.5 km (10:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Looooooong race. Technically straightforward, no long legs, just a lot of 300 - 500m ones. Working on my 'lack of attack' I attacked straight from the off, and promptly lost myself on the 1:15000 scale. Hmmm, perhaps there is a happy medium. Suitably corrected, off I went. Good run, kept going and only lost it near the end where tiredness kicked in and I started to wobble, and also to attempt to run through trees rather than round them. Not recommended. Hard to go too far wrong as there were so many tracks and distinctive hills / valleys. Extremely runnable terrain.
Pleased to have survived and I gave it everything I could at this stage. I will never be a proper classic runner, but this course was probably my best shot as it was such straightforward terrain.

1st Cat Taylor 67:38 (5 minute lead, wow)
29th Ali 97:59
42nd Me 121:39 +80% there were 15 of us in the hundred club though.
44 finishers. Toni skipped a loop, Niamh and Olivia ran W21S.

So in summary - sprint is definitely my forte!!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Up to the start and general drills

Orienteering race (JK Middle) 55:47 [4] 6.76 km (8:15 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Well if I thought yesterday was a dunt to confidence, this was worse. I wanted to be clean, clear attackpoints, compass and pace. Achieved well. Only a couple of wobbles, and I know why. However my time was useless, Olivia was taking great chunks out of my splits for nearly every control. Spoke to Philip afterwards and he ID's my 'lack of attack' which is true, I was being careful. That's not a way to win a race.
This terrain should have suited me (easy underfoot, runnable hills) so I'm disappointed but will pick myself back up and learn from it.

5.6k course 240m climb
1st Claire Ward 30:47
20th Ali 37:25
31st Toni 40:15
38th Niamh 45:00
55th Olivia 51:55
56th Me 55:47 +81% !!!
58 finishers

Event: JK 2013

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Warm-up pre-sprint, including jog round the building on the sample map. Tuned me up nicely for running round all the buildings on the real map.

Orienteering race (JK Sprint (WRE)) 17:58 [5] 3.0 km (5:59 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Pushed hard from the off, fluid and running strongly, so I thought, but results tell a different story. A huge dunt to confidence because I feel like my physical improvement over the past year didn't show. It was a runner's course, the only decision-making being which-way-round-the-building, so I suppose I didn't get a chance to get the intricate stuff right.

1st Tessa 12:46
24th Ali 15:20
30th Niamh 15:59
32nd Toni 16:35
40th Olivia 17:33
45th Me 17:58 +41%
48th Ruth 18:38

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Jan13

Nice cool-down jog with Olivia.
