Classic Skiing 1:17:22 [3] 8.17 mi (9:28 / mi) +170m 8:54 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Classic

Back to Bretton Woods for the day - can't beat that powder snow. Cold but sunny and temps rising a bit. I took my waxed Xiums "as is" -works in cold powder - glide was reasonable. Out Turnpike to Black Forest, back on Stumpwalk, then up Coronary Hills and home on B&M: double poling at stead "slow train" pace. Fun!
2 PM

Classic Skiing 59:50 [1] 2.47 mi (24:13 / mi) +30m 23:21 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Classic

Then a shuffle with N out the Periphery and back on Turnpike. Getting chilly again. Mt Wash has been hiding in the clouds all day, yet otherwise all is bright and sunny under a blue sky.

Classic Skiing 50:51 [3] 5.82 mi (8:44 / mi) +130m 8:10 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

Then out for a skate - needed to warm up again. Across the field and over Coronary Hills, right on Porcupine, and down Sebosis, then left onto Turnpike and home via Esker. Fabulous. Mt Wash peak now showing in a red sunset glow, with a horizontal band of a grey cloud below it. A colorful spectacle just as I came out onto the open before skating in to the Center.

Classic Skiing 1:38:52 [3] 7.87 mi (12:34 / mi) +170m 11:46 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

At Bretton Woods. Cold and brisk (5 F). Out to Coronary Hill, then Porcupine, down to Sebosis and to the flats, down via Brookside to Lodge; then back out to search for my windbreaker which I had tucked in my belt. Found it promptly after another loop around the flats.
1 PM

Classic Skiing 49:08 [2] 2.0 mi (24:34 / mi) +25m 23:39 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Out for a loop with Nancy on the flats. (Brookside, Turnpike).
2 PM

Skate Skiing 1:23:27 [3] 7.95 mi (10:30 / mi) +160m 9:53 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

And out for a skate: Perimeter (clockw) to Carriage Road to B&M to Sebosis, up at Junction, to Ebosis/..... onto Clinton (grand tour) and back to Center via Beech Hill. Very slow conditions. 1.5 ft of powder snow through, so the base was soft on top. First half was all V1 which became a bit painful especially on the B&M (former railroad track) which has an ever so slight incline over miles. But then sweet on the return (Beech Hill) with lots of V2 on the long gentle downs.

What a winter wonderland up here! And very enjoyable once you are out of the wind, which was not brutal - not like some years ago (~ 10 - 15?) when we had a U.S. Champs Ski-O with same temperatures, but twice the wind.

Classic Skiing 1:30:00 [2] 6.73 mi (13:22 / mi) +110m 12:44 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Skiing the Ellis R trail in Jackson w. Nancy. Easy shuffling to Cocoa C. Then by myself to Keeny Tr. and back to CC, then back to Center w. Nancy. Very blustery in the fields. My classic racers were waxed for colder temps, so used the waxless cruisers. Fantastic snow: 1 - 2 feet base, transformed at the surface due to previous rain/sleet, but dried up again after grooming, hence nice and fast.
3 PM

Skate Skiing 1:02:00 [3] 7.15 mi (8:40 / mi) +240m 7:51 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

Then out for a skate after a very light lunch. Up the Yodel, then Wave,Henri, John to the top of Betty Whitney, and back down. Wind had nearly stopped and it was just gorgeous out in the fields with clouds lifting partially revealing Carter Dome. My arms were very weak (no serious training since last winter), so I compensated with strong shoulder action. The beauty of nordic skiing: many muscle groups involved supporting each other.

Note

Sauna Session at Tuckaway. Felt good. Especially cooling off and air-drying in the brisk wind under the stars. Three times.
