Trail running 48:02 [3] 5.01 mi (9:35 / mi) +40m 9:21 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

My usual end of day run - trying to get out before dark. To Spr Wood, then Troy's trails connecting to Bike trails, did a complete counter clockwise loop, then back to shelter and home. Nice how this just adds to a 5 miler. Dreary day, misting, slipped a few times in the trace of snow. Home just in time before dark at 4:45.

Dancing 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Newton MV3

Benefit dance for local charter school that emphasizes the arts: a bit of contra (circle) with music by the string's school ensemble and Gary Sredzienski, the accordion "polka master", then intermittently: Gary's band the Serfs rocked the house (loudly...) . Lots of polka-ing, waltzing and fun rock n'roll - a bit of a workout. Prior to the dance, Gary had just swam a few miles down and up the Bellamy River - one of his many fundraising swims. (Gary used to be our neighbor).

Classic Skiing 37:00 [2] 3.07 mi (12:03 / mi) +30m 11:42 / mi
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Around Spruce Hole. Similar to yesterday but becoming marginal. Area is protected from the sun intrusion at this time of the year. Clyde's trails (S side of road) was already very patchy when I started, so I quickly hopped over to the Hole side. Probably the last day before the next snow event.
12 PM

Road Running 24:38 [3] 3.24 mi (7:36 / mi) +30m 7:23 / mi
shoes: On Cloud grey-black

Run to town to Pauly's Pockets (lunch buy), then to work.
5 PM

Trail running 35:37 [3] 3.32 mi (10:44 / mi) +55m 10:12 / mi
shoes: On Cloud grey-black

Running home. Just getting dark. Mostly on < 1 inch of snow. Perfect! Not much slipping at all.

Classic Skiing 1:01:00 [3] 5.12 mi (11:55 / mi) +40m 11:38 / mi
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Ahh..finally some skiing! Thanks to the sandy surface layer in our neighborhood, rocks are few and far between, and I tend to know where they are. So, the 2 - 3 inches of fluffy snow we received over night were enough to "bomb" around in it. Fast fluffy snow, quite bumpy in places (sticks, icy formations over foot prints and over puddles) - a bit of a balancing act in places, yet good for training. About 30% double poling, the rest was fast kick and glide. Part 1 around Clyde's trails (mortgage delivery), Part 2 around Spruce Hole. Spruce Wood Connector and Elective Avenue were sweet, the rest somewhat marginal.

Dancing 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Newton MV3

Dover Contra Dance. Stayed and danced for the duration. Second to last Dover dance before a venue change in early March.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 30:00 [1]

Shoveling the driveway mostly to get it dry before the afternoon's freeze-down. But also for the in-laws to have easy driving while picking up the grandson, who BTW strongly protested the shoveling since it destroyed the "Schuss-track" that we used minutes before to barrel-ass down in the inflatable dish.
1 PM

Trail running 1:12:42 [4] 8.05 mi (9:02 / mi) +140m 8:34 / mi
shoes: VJ Falcon w spikes

Out the door to shake off holiday inertia and start the new year on a "good footing". An inch of slushy snow in the process of melting in sunny and windy warm temperatures. This seemed a good opportunity to give my O shoes a well-deserved seasonal wash, while I enjoyed the good traction. Huge puddles everywhere. So I went, to W Foss Farm towards Highland /Thompson back to loop trails to Surrey, then on road (soft shoulder!) to the hole. Miles 6 - 8 included 4 hill tempo workouts on access dirt road (1 min up, 1.5 min down) plus a final extra hill along solar array. (Intensity 4 on uphills).

Note

I logged about 1500 "on-foot" miles this year. Not bad. Hope to keep it going for another year...

Trail running 1:04:18 [3] 5.99 mi (10:44 / mi) +100m 10:12 / mi
shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

Over to Wiswall and loop run around the Littlejohn trails. Woods were nice open, so I tried some traversing on logging cuts and on the tentative trail, that ends in nowhere-land - hence some slow slogging through the rough at times. Just getting dark as I came back to the car. Not a soul nor any wildlife - only the sound of a chickadee..
