XC Skiing 1:30:00 [2] 2.5 mi (36:00 / mi) +20m 35:08 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Hanging 13 flags for Ski-O. Brutally cold with blowing wind in places. Spent a fair amount of time blowing warm breath into my gloves/mittens after each flag/epunch was hung. Not much skiing so body got really cold in spite of multiple layers. But it needed to be done.

XC Skiing 1:35:00 [2] 3.58 mi (26:32 / mi) +40m 25:39 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

More track reconditioning for Sunday's event. Nancy came along for the first 30 minutes. Tracks are now forming nicely - quite a few leaves collecting in them, but not a problem with cold temperature kick wax. Also a few spots of formidable snow drifts. Those will need to be dealt with Sunday morning in calm conditions.
Courses: Middle: ~ 5 k (6.7 k skiable dist), Short: 2.5 k (3.5 k skiable)
Mini: Beginner's course 1.5 k 2 k skiable.

XC Skiing 2:05:00 [2] 5.6 mi (22:19 / mi) +80m 21:22 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Reconditioning the tracks for Sunday's Ski-O event, mid-storm. 5 inches in the beginning, about 3 more were added during the ski. Easy starting, but snow did get deep during the last 40 minutes or so, and I had to stomp vigorously in order to pack the snow down at least a little bit.
Note: Finished the map later in the day.
11 PM

XC Skiing 2:25:00 [2] 5.8 mi (25:00 / mi) +70m 24:06 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Track conditioning post-storm. Very windy but relatively warm (20F). I wore my helmet to protect myself from flying object. Although there was a lot of howling, it seems that only leaves must have been flying around, there were lots of them in the tracks. 2 small areas of major drifting, so much so that my own tracks were disappearing within an hour when I came back to the same area. Snow is quite deep around 20 inches I would guess. Hard work.

Classic Skiing 1:07:03 [2] 4.21 mi (15:56 / mi) +55m 15:18 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Around Spruce Hole. More track cutting including through new logging area W of dividing brook. Now over 5 miles of tracks. Ready to organize the Ultimate Middle Distance Classic Ski-O Adventure Race. (UMDCSOAR) Tentative for Sunday.
10 PM

Classic Skiing 1:04:50 [2] 4.73 mi (13:42 / mi) +75m 13:04 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Full moon skiing. Around the Hole. Fabulously clear night, never even turned on my headlamp. Absolutely still. Temperature steady at 8 F. After the first mile I had no sense of being cold. Just 100% comfortable. What could be better.

Skate Skiing 1:14:04 [2] 6.96 mi (10:39 / mi) +100m 10:11 / mi
shoes: Fisher Revolutions

Out again at Linden Farm for Skate skiing. Just as I got my skis out of the car, Jamie came walking from the river side, so we joined going west again on LittleJohn area. He split near Wiswall Rd going home, and I explored the powerline connector which was a bad idea - rough trail - obstacle skiing for the most part. Once back on the wider trail, I did the out and back again as yesterday. Much better with the Revolutions. Trails feel more hard-packed as compared to yesterday. Still cold about 8 F. Polar Vortex continues....
3 PM

Classic Skiing 50:00 [2] 3.01 mi (16:37 / mi) +15m 16:22 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Then out on Clyde's trail with Nancy for 1 loop, then back to visit C&W bringing the mortgage and wishing a HNY, but unfortunately both were sick on the couches.

Skate Skiing 32:08 [2] 2.81 mi (11:26 / mi) +35m 11:01 / mi
shoes: Atomic Skate RS9

I went to the Boat Club first, but no sign of grooming. So had a hunch that perhaps the snow-mobilers would have done some grooming, so took a look at Linden Farm. And yes they did, actually one person had done a superb job. I followed what seem to be an out and back that ended up beyond Follet's brook, and reached the end where there was a brand-new looking snow mobile with a 3-foot wide 8 foot long metal contraption. Great! Narrow in places in the woods and some rock humps showing through, but I know the trails very well, so was cautious. Otherwise powdery snow, so easy to turn on the breaks. Ran into Jamie on the way back, had a quick conversation, too cold to stop moving for too long.

While trying to stop my skis from sliding off the side of the car in the parking area, my legs slipped under me on the ice and I crash landed on my buttock. Ouch. It did hurt, and I was hoping that it would not develop into a lasting injury.

Classic Skiing 48:51 [2] 3.75 mi (13:02 / mi) +45m 12:34 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

And out again looping around Spruce Hole. Added a few more new tracks between P F Road and Electric Avenue N of the house. My buttock felt more or less ok. Hope I am not aggravating it.
