XC Skiing 1:15:00 [2] 6.0 mi (12:30 / mi) +50m 12:11 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Around Spruce Hole on an otherwise busy "work at home" day. Brilliant morning. Tracks are still not settled in enough to allow :"real" classic skiing, but I am working at it. Out to the field and logging area. Windblown logged hill allowed me to teleski on the crust, but with some caution. Met Duane with lab dog Mazy.

Skate Skiing 2:00:00 [2] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +300m 9:17 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

In Wolfeboro. I opted for the nearest possible skate venue which was a toss-up betw Gunstock and Wolfeboro. Went for the latter, since there is so much snow. I did the "Grand Tour" starting at Abenaki, skied to the top of the ski hill, then returned to reservoir, and took the Internet to Sewall woods. A couple of loops around and back to Abenaki. All 30k had been groomed in the morning. Much softening in the sun, poles pushed through in places and the skiing got harder. But it was intermittent. And the Abenaki side with its wind exposure was holding up very nicely. 3 x 2 road crossings. Frequent stops to check map. (Should have brought my map holder).

More "tracking" around Spruce Hole. It is a fantastic winter wonderland out there. Met Steve the Snowshoer. Similar loop as yesterday. Tracks are becoming reasonable

Snow Shoveling/Moving 1:20:00 [2]

Actually very little shoveling, mostly raking the S roof to free the solar panels, then "sledding" the snow over the porch, down the "ramp" onto a growing mound. Roof raking is hard - steering the roof rake in the hard-packed blizzard snow is difficult. Sledding the snow on the other hand is fun and quite aerobic - I jog so that I have enough umph to push it onto the mound. Body was tired afterwards.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 1:00:00 [1]

Two episodes: (1) car 1 dig out and to woodshed (2) pet walk, car # 2 and touching up the driveway

XC Skiing 1:20:00 [2] 3.0 mi (26:40 / mi) +60m 25:06 / mi

Track setting from house to Mill Rd and to Electric Ave. Very frustrating. Felt like threading water. Snow was dense at the top, but not settled underneath. Was about ready to loop back to house, when I saw the tracks that the neighbors started during the storm. The were 100% skied in - which meant somebody must have touched them up this morning. Well it was Neil whom I encountered coming back just around Spruce Hole. After a long chat, I went to touch up his new tracks down to Oyster R Forest. He "plowed" through the new logging cuts taking advantage of the exposed hills which were solidly packed. Ended up being fun. Thanks to the logging, we now have a new "winter park play ground" as long as there is enough snow to cover up the mess underneath. Formidable exercise.

Trail running 1:10:00 [2] 5.5 mi (12:44 / mi) +50m 12:23 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Morning run at the start of the blizzard. Oyster Forest - stomped around in the newly logged area, what a mess!, then towards CW, off-trail for a bit over to Mill Road, Father L fields to shelter loop then via "bike" trails to Surrey Lane. Then home along the road, which now had a nice coating of snow, which I love to run on. Virtually no traffic - most folks are staying home today.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 30:00 [1]

Round 1 of "digging" out around the cars, then the pet walk - cat needs to go to his outhouse. Snow is fine, heavy, full of moisture, starting to blow horizontally. Could not see very well what I was doing. Heard some suspicious cracking in the pine trees around. Yes, it is a Blizzard! yeah!

Trail running 1:04:00 [2] 5.5 mi (11:38 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Out for a trail run to get some mileage in. Lots of snow patches still out there, generally a few inches but reasonably packed, so I could ballet over the top. Around the "bike" trails between Surrey Lane and the Shelter. Found a new path, I followed the foot tracks in the snow, but nearly lost in the melted patches. There were a few tiny streamers. Eventually it connected to the far side of Troy's trails. Excellent! More looping possibilities. Generally easy run, stopped to pick up debris, of which there was lots of. Did my back exercises as warm-up to avoid "growing" pains as I transition to running. Warmest afternoon in a while (30 F).

Classic Skiing 1:05:00 [2] 4.0 mi (16:15 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Braving the cold on minimal snow. (12 F and windy). Decided for classic over skate. About 50% nice, and 50% lousy (little snow over vegetation). 40 minutes around Spruce Hole, then 25 minutes w. Jena over to the far causeway and back. Stopped many times to pick up branches. It has been windy. Waffles afterwards for a mid-morning breakfast.
