Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 25 [2] 5.0 mi (5 / mi)

To and from work
6 PM

jogging 20 [2] 1.5 mi (13 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Minimus

Jogaroo around Spruce Hole with od-Jena. Decided to do high leg lifts with minimal forward motion, so that J was able to keep up comfortably and also found enough time to do adequate sniffing out of the neighborhood.

Orienteering race 1:29:00 [3] *** 6.3 mi (14:08 / mi)
spiked:8/13c shoes: Icebug

Red Course at Townsend. Nice course set by Dean S. Woods were lovely devoid of water. Took it slow today. Just wanted to have fun orienteering (has been a rarity for me lately). Too far NE on 4, but relocated correctly. Ran by 5 just S of it, then circled around, and stood 30 m from it - did not see the faded control, did another loop around, then saw it. Missed traverse to 7 by going too far. My usual mistake at Townsend. The 2.5 m contours are portraying a steepish hillside, so I forget to check my compass, trusting instead of the suggested direction. But then the terrain is rather vague. Anyway, ended up 150m NE of control near circular cliff. Again good relocating. I heard that 10 was misplaced, so I attacked carefully from indistinct trail N of it and landed right on it. I possibly missed a group of boulders due to poor visibility and thought it was correctly placed. Lost 1 min on route to 12 - went too far north on trail, then had to turn back. Hope to run faster and cleaner next weekend.

Trail running race 1:27:20 [4] 9.0 mi (9:42 / mi) +450m 8:24 / mi
shoes: New Balance Minimus

The "Big-A" (Mt Agamenticus) Trail Race put on by Jackalope Sports. Fun race! 8.5 miles on very technical single track trail with about 1400 feet of up and down. Start finish on top, with over 500 feet climb during the last 1.5 miles. Cool weather (50 - 60 degrees) helped me to maintain energy to the end, although my legs got mushy and I could not muster to sprint into the finish and the two "young" guys whom I lead most of the way passed me on the last 100m. 11th overall and won my age class - I think there was another guy in 60 - 69, and 2 guys in 70-79. Winning time was around 1:11.
Fastest woman was 53 yr old Erika who ran in sandals (Merrills) - so did one of the top three guys. That prompted a discussion, especially since my nearly delapidadet New Balance Minimus could almost be designated as sandals. I had to really plant my steps since I could feel each rock, which slowed me down on the downhills, but perhaps that was to my benefit.

Note: Garmin (110 Road Runnder) says 1000 ft ascent but when I count the contours on the underlayed topo map it amounts to over 1400 ft.
