Classic Skiing warm up/down 12:00 [1] 0.7 mi (17:08 / mi)
shoes: Rossi Xium Classic

Testing Skis. Bizarre Weather: Forecast was for ~ 32 F but still only 21 F, 45 minutes before start. By start the temps had risen to 33F . Tracks were packed with icy blotches appearing, so I knew I needed klister. Quickly smeared a layer of Universal onto skis in the car (keeping things warm) and was just ready in time. Shedded one layer of clothing and off to the start.

Jackson "30 km". They cut it short again this year. Fine with me and everyone I talked to. I was happy to have good kick up the Yodel and over the Wave etc. the first loop. It deteriorated in the second, as temps further climbed to about 38 F. But worse: Coming out of the first loop onto the Eagle fields: Brutal wind gusts were blasting out of Carter Notch - there were 4 switchbacks over the fields - one direction was smack into the wind - I could not move, not double poling, not kicking - it just threw me out of any rhythm. Towards the end I was able to just lean forward like a ski jumper and try to keep a kick and glide going - that was extremely exhausting. Then after the switch it was spreading out the sails and glide with the wind. A good workout, and in the end, it felt good. I chased a 17 yr old down the wave - she definitely had a bit more umph on the double pole, and finished just before me. I ended up beating several of my rivals, probably due to my klister bister.
