Note

Hip sore overnight and this morning so not difficult sticking to my decision not to run the middle distance.

Oceania Relay - Kereta - 4.6Km 140m

Good relay course, though I was on my own the whole way (leg 3).

Put more effort in this time and as a result was in more pain. Hip particularly sore, though think that was mostly to do with wrenching it a bit trying to avoid something while going down the hill 5-6. Enjoyed running faster.

Unfortunately heavy rain set in early on and struggled to read the map and see what I was running over from just before 3. As a result, was a bit lucky on a couple of controls and probably a bit slower than I might have been. Gave up and took the glasses off just before 9, so the fine navigation was dubious from there on. Lost a few seconds on the route to 14, and 30 seconds on 16 where I saw the control but decided it wasn't in a re-entrant.

Orienteering 56:59 [3] 8.0 km (7:07 / km)
ahr:151 max:161 shoes: VJ Falcon

Oceania Long - Rototoa - M50 - 6.1Km 300m

Probably too many controls, but a really good course requiring full on concentration. Tricky first half with lowish visibility and lots of cutty grass to hinder straight line running.

Never running fast, but that was not an issue. Didn't really notice injuries on the first half of the course, but got sore on the second half, mainly SI. Quite tired towards the end - fairly warm and humid by then.

Lost a few seconds at 1,2,3. Lost about 20 sec at 5, stopping a ridge too soon. A few more seconds at 7. Lost 45s 9-10: lost contact completely, kept going very hesitantly, and then just stumbled across it (but safe enough with the hill behind). A few more seconds on 11 and 12, then 30 seconds on 14 (distracted by another control). Then 15s on 16. Despite all that, not a surprise that I did well, as it felt like a course that would cause problems.

Orienteering race 16:08 [4] 3.5 km (4:37 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

Oceania. sprint - Carrington - M50 - 2.9Km

Strange race. Fine weather until a minute before I started but then set off into a downpour, which rather threw me mentally and meant there were issuesnwith visibility right from the start. Struggled to get going and never really got into it, partly because the ground was slippery everywhere so was concentrating more on running than navigating. Also forgot my compass which didn't help.

Didn't make any serious mistakes, but lost a few seconds 8-9 through leaving 8 the wrong way. Very hesitant to 12 where I wanted my compass, and then lost 10s leaving 15, again needing a compass. Lost a few seconds on 21 through not reading the uncrossable fence.

Physically, hamstring felt bad before starting, and didn't feel I was running symmetrically at any point, but not too much pain. Didn't attempt to speed up towards the end as it felt as though the body would complain. Hardly felt as though I 'd run afterwards.

Running 33:19 [3] 6.01 km (5:33 / km)
ahr:133 max:157 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Running! The medium Avian-Avro loop.

Felt great to be back out running and felt really fresh. Cautious to start with but difficult not to speed up as I was feeling so good.

Injury-wise, still a struggle. Hamstring / SI sore uphill, particularly when pushing. Groin tight more than sore and prevented me from stretching out downhill. Not particularly severe pain - could have pushed hard - but enough that I'm not confident about the next couple of weeks.
