Orienteering race 1:29:55 [3] 11.0 km (8:10 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Long - Hydrabad - 9.3Km.

A lot of the course in low vis slow run with lots on the forest floor. Many of the white sections also had a lot to negotiate. As a result, given current injuries, this was never likely to be much more than another training opportunity. Good fun though with a lot of concentration required at times. Struggled at times with the 5m contour interval - really not sure it's required.

Technically mostly not too bad. Bad mistake at 4 though - lost about 2 mins through going a bit off bearing through the thick stuff, and being too far right when I hit the track. Lost a few seconds in the circle at 8 and 15, though the miss at 15 was mainly brought about by trying to clean up after a nasty cow poo incident between 13 and 14!. Lost about 45sec at 17, but semi-deliberately bounced off track behind control.

Physically, a struggle. Very slow through the green, with sacroiliac / glute hurting quite a bit and making it very difficult to get over stuff. Was almost thinking about retiring due to the pain on the long track leg 5-6. But kept at it and was actually feeling at my best towards the end.

Orienteering race 14:33 [4] 3.01 km (4:50 / km)
ahr:154 max:164 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

Superseries Sprint - Whitirea Polytechnic

Groin still very sore yesterday and wasn't sure whether I'd be running today, but felt a bit better this morning. Sore during a slow warm up, but bearable. Wasn't really concentrating when I started the course and it showed. Probably lost 10 seconds on 2 and 5, and was generally very un-smooth for the first few controls. Consistently picked poor routes as well. Got better on the second half but rarely felt fully in control. Ran with Jonty Oram for some of this, several times picking different routes, but he got away when I took the wrong route to 19.

Never running comfortably, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. Not sharp enough.

Orienteering race 39:32 [3] 3.79 km (10:26 / km)
ahr:149 max:159 shoes: VJ Falcon

Suprseries Middle distance - "Colonial Parklands" - 2.9Km 250m

Pretty much as gruesome as expected, though not all completely awful.

Never went out with any intention of racing given my injury state and the nastiness of the terrain. First half went pretty well; not too much pain and generally accurate. Lost about 45 sec at 11 - couldn't quite force myself to leave the hilltop early enough and went a bit beyond it (partly thanks to assuming Jenni A. knew what was going on). Then had a bad fall on the way down the hill from 11 (quite lucky not to injure myself seriously) and from then on was in pain and not really concentrating. Didn't actually lose much time though - just a few seconds through hesitancy on 17.

Cycling 43:27 [5]

Hills on the bike, again at the top of Avro. Added a couple extra this time so that it was 2x5.

At the end of the last of the third set, got the racing heart problem again. Got off the bike, sat down and it clicked back to normal within a couple of minutes (after following suggested action). As an experiment, carried on and did the second set, without problem.

Groin very sore again today - too sore to risk running. Not too bad on the bike, though could feel it, particularly when standing up. This weekend looking doubtful.

Rogaine race 59:18 [3] 10.66 km (5:34 / km)
ahr:135 max:154 shoes: Brooks Cascadia

PMax - Whitby

Enjoyable - haven't run round Whitby for several years and there are now quite a lot of nice tracks.

Everything quite stiff and sore last night and worse today. Struggling to run before starting - groin / hamstring / glute all sore. Started very conservatively. In pain, but able to run (though terrain would have been a struggle). Had to speed up quite a lot in the last 15-20 minutes. No worse on the pain front and actually felt very good from a general fitness point of view.

Running 34:24 [3] 7.67 km (4:29 / km)
ahr:139 max:161 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Intervals at TMP. Used the track again as it was marked out a bit better than last week. 3 x (800, 3x200).

Genarally not feeling so injured though glute / hamstring started hurting as soon as I started the intervals. Not much difference in pain between the 200s and 800s. A lot of lung pain though, so hopefully doing me some good.

Running 34:36 [3] 5.9 km (5:52 / km) +199m 5:01 / km
ahr:128 max:144

The medium Avro-Avian loop.

Wasn't going to go for a run given tiredness and injuredness, but wanted to just do a simple recovery run after a period of orienteering and speed sessions. Laid back and enjoyable.

Useful chance to listen properly to the various injuries. Groin and sacroiliac not a problem today. Front of hip a bit sore. Hamstring / glute a bit sore, but only really when going uphill.

Interestingly, Garmin measured this as 100m shorter than last time and with 35m less climb. Not exactly filling me with confidence.
