Still in that phase where 20 miles is about all my body has to give on the bike. Never felt like I was in a groove with being 'light on my feet' and all... I had OK moments and struggling moments. Last 2 miles or so my quads completely gave up the ghost and couldn't muscle any kind of big gear (when I cam on small hills that I would just muscle through on the large chainring I all of the sudden shut down and couldn't muscle the big gear up...)

Strava: http://app.strava.com/activities/60501339 18.4 mph if take out stops, shows overall speed issues and especially hills.

Trail Running 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

GPS watch did its "act-like-I-am-charging-but-I-am-really-just-sapping-power thing and dies right after I started it today. I am guessing around 3 miles in 30 minutes on the Nature Centre trails at North Park. Beautiful fern forests for another short run. My quads were still extremely tight, making downhilling nearly impossible (like running the bases yesterday- simple things...) and I felt like I was 'prancing' on my toes a bit to imitate being 'light on my feet'.. My form was definitely not as good as Wednesday but I did the best I could and was short enough not to cause any damage.

PT (calves/ T.A.) 45:00 [3]

Aqua-jogging 30:00 [3]

Aqua-jogging at Y. I still felt like I was 'on top of my hips' and such, but my left knee just kept getting more and more irritated. Stopped when it felt right to do so.

The reason is probably that I played in a short 3-inning student vs. teacher kickball game. It was low key and thankfully so as it showed me just how weak my legs are. I couldn't kick with any power and even an easy run to the bases with a stop at the base was way too much for my quads to handle. My knees were a mess in no time and I never felt anything but incredibly awkward. A long way to go have I...

PT (Quad/hamstring focus) 1:00:00 [3]

knee extensions only at the Y. Leg press would be too much force for me to risk given my left quad. At home did full stretching and wall squats. Skipped single leg raised squats for same reason.

Full stretching and rotating resistance band hip strengthening.

Trail Running 25:02 [0] 3.01 mi (8:19 / mi) +332ft 7:32 / mi

HR monitor still not working.. still annoyed.

tried another run instead of hitting the bike. I planned a short 3 mile run and that was it. I won't say everything was great, but the good feelings of being 'on top of my hips' and the sense of being 'light on my feet' were the stronger reality. I would have liked the HR monitor was working. It was very taxing to even run 3 miles maintaining these attributes on my form, but the resulting pace was much more reasonable for my effort. Pace dropped well as I went.

aqua-jogging at Y after work. The good feeling of getting on 'top of my hips' and the sense of being 'light of the ground' was there

very frustrating that the HR monitor seems to have stopped working. First mile is also really off...

Beautiful day out on the north ridge trails in late spring growth after a rainy day. My body, however, was not so beautiful.

Right knee had bad steps right from the beginning. The funny thing is that, for the first time this spring- I did feel my self get "on top of my hips" and be able to spin my legs "lighter"of the ground. It was either too little too late or not enough for my right knee as I had to stop 1.5 miles in as it just felt like the irritation caused was too great for the gain. I did walk the 1.5 miles back on the trail and felt fine.

I am actually walking away from this run in a pretty positive space. The last few years have been rough as a year plus of rest and PT wasn't effective, just as shorter spans of rest following I just kept ending up in the same place. Good stretches would turn south and this past year I just had fun and raced and did want I want anyway, ignoring common sense. That finally, of course, caught up to me as well.

Now I feel like a mess, but I am starting over and am giving myself the time and space to do so. With that comes a sense of patience. I am heading somewhere and I saw that today. I had my year of fun, now I will ease in and hope for the future again.

Had time for a short ride before heading out to a marketing event for work at Schenley Park). As most rides have been, an hour was about right as everything was harder and slower then it should be. The nice thing though, is that biking does feel productive. Where running, right now, feels somewhat impossible (my knees quads just don't handle the stress at any pace or attention to form), cycling feels like I am working my quads constructively. It just doesn't make sense how all-of-the-sudden weak enough they are to need that level of work. Why are things at such light levels creating so much work all of the sudden?

Hills were slow as expected and HR higher as has been.
