Note

Here is a small part of the sprint map that I am working on over here!

Forest Orienteering 1:09:47 [3] 5.82 km (11:59 / km)

Butchered a corridor-o in some places. The parts with details were easier to follow in comparison to the parts that were vaguer. I went off the map a couple times. It is very important to use your compass as a crutch in this terrain and trust it to avoid mistakes.

Forest Orienteering 54:38 [3] 5.53 km (9:53 / km)

Ran a course and was feeling meh during the end, leading to the fact that my speed disintegrated into a 10min per km. Cut back the last part. I'm probably going to take tomorrow easier.

Forest Orienteering 1:03:09 [4] 7.49 km (8:26 / km)

Switched to dry clothes, did the dishes, and went out again on Matej's course. Middle distance with some route choice lega, and some early controls that were very difficult technically. Didn't really make any mistakes other than a couple wobbles and one route choice where I should have cut to a path earlier on, instead of going straight. In many of these terrains it is often best to go straight and slightly avoid marshes, big cliffs, and cliff that would hinder you substantially.

Forest Orienteering 1:09:52 [4] 6.85 km (10:12 / km)

Well used time frame for training in the rain! I ran during the only time it rained the whole day. Middle distance control picking very short legs nailed most of them.

Friday May 29, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering 41:17 [3] 6.5 km (6:21 / km)

Ran the sprint relay training. Neat route choices. Only really messed up one where there was a canopy and a wall on one side that I didn't see.

Forest Orienteering 44:00 [3] 4.0 km (11:00 / km)

My failed attempt at a morning training in the rain. The training started with a window-o that didn't show much of the map, where the first control was a rock by a marsh. I passed by two marshes without finding the control so I made the assumption that I was in the general area, and tried taking a bearing in the direction of 2 which I thought would be more obvious and easier to find. After a while i decided to bail to the path because I wasn't hitting the control so I changed direction again. When I didn't find the path and I began going down the other side of the hill then I decided to go and try and relocate so I changed direction once again, and headed for where I thought the start was originally. After a what seemed like a long time of running in the rain, with frozen hands, and a very stiff body posture, I stopped and looked at my GPS track. To my surprise it showed about three loops around a general central point. This nearly drove me hysterical because I was freezing, I had no idea where I was and had just found out that I had been running in circles around a vague hill which I thought that I had been side-hilling in a constant direction. I ran a bit further and ran into an identical rock to one that I had seen a little while ago. At this point I confirmed that my compass was probably working and so I took a bearing north and after a painful ten minutes of running through the rain, crossing some cliffs, marshes and vegetation I finally found my way to the road that took me back to the car. There I tried get the heating to work to no avail until Matej came.

Forest Orienteering 2:35:50 [3] 12.89 km (12:05 / km)

Ran ont eh second training at Iddefjordfjella. Fortunatly the rain simmered down a bit got 46 controls from Matejs course. Its amazing how nearly every map in this area is completely different and it requires a lot of interpretation to accurately run these difficult courses.

Running (Warm-up corridor) 14:44 [3] 1.28 km (11:31 / km)

Warmed up with a corridor-o off to the side of the course.

Forest Orienteering 50:13 [4] 6.16 km (8:09 / km)

Taking it easy on the WC middle training on Lindtjern map. I spiked nearly every control with the exception of 14 which I missed slightly, and was a little high.

Running (Cool down) 2:40 [2] 0.34 km (7:55 / km)

Run to car.

Running (Warm up) 4:05 [2] 0.5 km (8:10 / km)

Warm up to start.

Forest Orienteering 2:20:00 [4] 13.0 km (10:46 / km)

WC long training on Hauglund map, with many long legs. It took a while to get into the slightly different terrain before I got used to it and was able to be more accurate on each leg.

Tuesday May 26, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering 1:57:14 [3] 11.37 km (10:19 / km)

Training at Hoias because there was no time to get out to further maps. Rough start in the new terrain before we got accustomed to it, especially in the green. By the end we were doing much better then at the beginning.

Forest Orienteering 28:16 [5] 4.2 km (6:44 / km)

Pinsesprinten M16

7th out of 40
http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Lost 3 min, not a stellar race.

Forest Orienteering 2:12:53 [5] 12.3 km (10:48 / km)

Løvspretten M17-20E

95th
http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/no/d...

Started off well, then was distracted by other people leading me to lose contact with the map, after which I made a string of large mistakes finishing with a massive parallel error that finally caused me to give up, stop racing and jog the rest of the course. Was really hungry from about the 8th control. The fact that I was not dead last is both surprising, and a miracle.

Forest Orienteering 38:34 [5] 4.81 km (8:01 / km)

Hamar - Elgdilten at Mosjømarka M17-20E
72nd out of 108
http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/no/d...

Made too many mistakes on that course. Not optimal. Terrain is rough and it is very difficult to run between rocks.

Friday May 22, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 7.0 km (11:26 / km)

Running a short course on a nearby map. Very nice terrain, and it goes on for miles.

walking 2:30:00 [1] 10.0 km (15:00 / km)

Walking to the the map, then to the club house, then back home.

Thursday May 21, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering 34:18 [4] 4.0 km (8:35 / km)

Tried a forest-O race that happened two weeks ago. It was harder because there weren't any of the controls left. I had to do a bunch of stopping to make sure that I was going in the right direction/places. I would have been around 7th place with my time i think.

Wednesday May 20, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering (Norwegian regionals) 14:37 [5] 3.0 km (4:52 / km)
slept:0.0

Arrived in Oslo and went to the race almost straight from the airport. Had a decent race considering the state that I was in. Didn't really make any route choice errors except on a couple of controls. Came 10th out of thirty boys with a time of 14:37, if I was 2 seconds faster then i would have been 8th.

Forest Orienteering 1:06:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:15 / km)

Jeff's training courses in Fish Creek Park. Nice little trainings, I had to do a little bit of interpretation because the flags were gone. On the last loop it rained on me. :'(

Morning training on the team.
Bouldering in the afternoon at Knut's farewell.

Wednesday May 6, 2015 #

Forest Orienteering 34:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:48 / km)

Wednesday's club meet at the University, decent course, with some traps and decent route choice legs. Got trapped like twice, though the second time my map had been folded over a fence, and I had thought that I could get through.

Forest Orienteering (Lilian Lake) 1:52:17 [3] 13.02 km (8:37 / km) +194m 8:02 / km

Morning Training Camp, did the trainings for today and for yesterday. First one was a compass bearing training, nothing magical. Except that the third last control had been about 100m to my right, after I had spiked every other one. So I dunno what happened there, I blame rocks and metal in the ground. Then there was a I think line-o, and corridor. After that I ran a pretty easy course with lots of handrails and catching features. I was done all three of those trainings and at the 2nd parking lot by the time that the rest of the people ran the first one and got to the parking lot. Therefore I continued with the last one and then ate lunch.

Running (Lilian Lake) 10:07 [3] 1.63 km (6:12 / km) +11m 6:00 / km

Warm up.

Forest Orienteering (Lilian Lake) 28:08 [4] 4.64 km (6:04 / km) +74m 5:37 / km

Race, everything was decent other than the the fact that I went up hills pretty slow. At the end Damian caught up to me and I messed up my bearing in the last 10% of the leg as I saw another control and went for it. I was 3rd with Damian first, Brian May 2nd, and then me. The first guy doesn't count because he set out most/some of the controls.

Forest Orienteering (Lilian Lake) 11:52 [3] 1.18 km (10:03 / km)

Cool down.

Forest Orienteering 28:23 [4] 5.04 km (5:38 / km)

Kimberly - sprint with Damian - this was one of the best runs for this weekend. On a course that I made, which was really awesome with many route choice legs.

Forest Orienteering 2:55:18 [3] 13.02 km (13:28 / km) +393m 11:42 / km

Kettle Lake - jogged to the lake and did 2 courses. Super good middle distance terrain, just sometime a little too much climb. Needed water that I didn't take with me.

Forest Orienteering 13:26 [4] 2.5 km (5:22 / km) +39m 4:59 / km

Very easy sprint race in Invermere. There was literally not even one route choice.

Forest Orienteering (Double Duck) 1:11:29 [3] 7.39 km (9:40 / km) +180m 8:37 / km

At the end of the long I remembered that i was supposed to go and pick up controls, and so I went for another run (which I did not plan with) where the hills were bringing me close to tears. On the way I picked up some of my dad's/damian's controls from their run.

Forest Orienteering 54:53 [3] 7.43 km (7:23 / km) +248m 6:20 / km

Long distance HPP Training with Ross messed up one route choice because I did not think of contouring, cause it looked really green. Other then that good training course, as it was an adequate distance, and technical enough for me.

Forest Orienteering 41:01 [3] 5.14 km (7:59 / km) +138m 7:02 / km

Middle distance HPP Training with Ross. It would have been nice to have some controls for this one because the map was a bit harder. Quite decent though, I liked it, the map was complicated and it was a beautiful day.
