Running race 15:39 [5] 5.0 km (3:08 / km)

Kingsley 5k - 15.39

Where do I start? Since JK, motivation has been low for a variety of factors and as a result training has been very chilled as I just wasn't enjoying training, hence short enjoyable runs, parkruns and pleasant village tour cycles. I think this comes down to three things; 1, being ill before the JK and then still pushing myself over the weekend put me deeply into the red and took alot of recovery; 2, high quality graduate surveyor jobs have been in short supply and as a result of my previous job they are all I will be accepting and finding suitable opportunities has required alot of investigating on my behalf along with a lot of 'spare' time and I like running best when I am busy using runs as an escape; 3, feeling with other things.

However, despite all of this and limited training, I knew I hadn't gone to pot given okay runs at parkrun. Said to Dad on the way god knows what I will run but will probably be 16.10-16.15. Warming up felt fine and fresh but expected this with current training but thought the race would be a suffer fest. Got out hard for the first k and mile making the most of the flat/very slight downhill. Eased up the steep section of hill and found myself getting overtaken by a few people, but then once on the gentle section of the hill I started to over take a lot of people. Think 3k was 9.30. I pushed on down the hill gaining a few people. From 3.5k it began to hurt slightly but I still felt surprisingly good , got rather cautious here as given I was unsure on my shape I didn't want to invest too much too early and blowup. Got to 4k and back on the main road and pushed on, started to reel Chris Williams from Vale in and went past him along with dropping the group I was in, was just unable to catch Raz but almost. Eased up drastically 30m before the finish where there was a chip matt that looked like the finish until everyone in front of me kept sprinting so had to surge again - don't know where the finish banner was this year?

A good and massively surprising performance. Was great to feel good running and most importantly enjoy it. But couldn't help but be a little disappointed after as a felt of maybe not pushing hard enough mid way in the race, and even from 4-4.5 along with easing with 30m to go. Motivation refound and onto plenty more 5ks now.
