SA Middle Championships - Keynes Gap.

What an area, just a shame about this illness. I will come back here when feeling better or plan a training session here - fantastic area. Massive bloopers and crags everywhere!

Feel crap sill but set off with optimism with it only being a middle in comparison to yesterdays long, but my body just didn't want to move very quick at all. So in the end it just became a goal of completing the course and taking in the surroundings! Icebugs have somehow stopped rubbing so there may be a bit of life left in them!

Australian Long Distance Championships - Gumeracha Goldfields.

Zonked with the Angus bug. If this was a race at home I would not have run, but didn't want to miss out so just plodded around for the experience. Middle of the map looked like Cannock Chase without the bracken. Bottom half was like a Bear Grylls survival mission in the dense native bush. Top half open grass with some trees. Saw a fair few kangaroos, couple of lizards but luckily no snakes.

Heaps Good Tri-Adelaide Day 3 & Schools Relay - Mt Crawford.

Mass start race - good fun. Feeling a bit better but still not great. Everyone screwed up 1 up the hill, all the oldies got there first! Lots of people playing catch up through the runners then to 2 and 3. Got motoring on the long track leg to 4. Saw a headless Nay heading from 6 to 5?? Nice to 7 and then into the plantation which was fun. Nice vague contours in parts. In a group with two guys towards the end but managed to jump a few rides across and push on hard without them realising to get ahead and avoid a sprint finish down the chute. Good fun.

Tri Adelaide Day 2 & Schools Long - Wirra Wirra.

Shoes rubbing badly but managed to bodge it with a comped. New better compass which significantly reduced mistakes. Just not much energy today, feeling ill and moving slowly as a result :(

Nice rocky forest to start with then some denser forest with ride plantations. Then across the road. 11 nice. 12-13 over the hill looked like serious snake territory so was shitting it a bit. 13 and 14 nice. Back across the road into a some more ride plantation with open patches and lots of rock detail which was cool. Might have to come back here for training.

Tri Adelaide Day 2 & Schools Long - Keithcot Farm - 3rd.

Great little map. Tiny but again well utilised. Running to fast for the complexity of the map but 1 was fairly easy so was fine. 2 didn't have a proper plan and started moving before I knew where I was going and got stuck by a uncrossable fence as a result. Slowed down after this and began to read the map properly and flowed much better as a result. Thought I had blow it with a +40 on 1 but lots of people making mistakes and a ran smoothly for the rest and came 3rd. Wasn't really pushing too hard; tired and little ill. Got caught out by the same uncrossable fence on 26!!!

Australian Sprint Championships - Renamrk Schools - 7th.

Cool little area, very small but planned well with two maps and artificial fences. RC on 4. RC on 6 in the gardens but nailed this in comparison to most people. Then just ran completely past 8 via taking the road route and pushing on too hard. RC on 11, looked smooth but was longer. RC wrong side on 12. RC should have gone the other side on 14 but this is micro. Could have taken the smoother route on 25. Same on 26.

Roughly +54 seconds along with my fitness not being amazing right now. But a good performance for where I am at. Navigation was mostly good with only small errors apart from 8.

Cool format and maybe something we could use to better effect in the UK.

Running 17:17 [2] 3.22 km (5:22 / km)

Australian Middle Distance Championships - Crooked Straight, Renmark, SA.

Interesting area - sandy river bank with many gullys and bush. Nothing like home so plan was to employ some caution and build it. Walked the first few metres and weighed up number 1. Missed on 1, in the gully next door but didn't realise they would be that deep. Same on 7, crossed gullys etc making it hard work and then in the circle but searching. 10 - on the knoll but searching for control (1 min lost). 12 - pushed off in the Bush then ended up searching on the wrong spur (4 bloody minds lost). 15 - 40 lost hesitant. Then bonked after spectator, needed a drink and got real hungry + the sun.

Without the 4 minuter it would have be a good run and what I expected. Wasn't expecting anything amazing after flying over so recently and the new terrain type. Hopefully will start to pull it together. Relay tomorrow.
