Orienteering race 14:43 [5] 3.59 km (4:06 / km)
shoes: Fly Knit

New Zealand Sprint Championships - Oamaru - 8th.

What a cracker. Have been looking forward to this for a while now. A shame to miss a JK but what a replacement. No drama at 24. Quirky town full of Victorian building from a shipping boom which until recently have majority laid empty and only still stand due to not having enough money to demo them.

Cool start in the park. 1 was intense and maybe went to straight surrendering a few early seconds. Thereafter good to 12. 13 a little longer RC due to getting distracted by my minute man. Lost a few seconds on 16 running through the river tunnel. 20 slightly ran into the corner of thick bushes +2. There on good to the end.

As good as it gets really. Probably 10/15 seconds lost by slight 'mistakes', the rest on speed. However having hardly running at all since living the van life in NZ I am pretty pleased with it. 8th in a field where I am guessing the guys have trained hard and tapered for as WOC selection. 2nd-8th all pretty close.

Good times and fun orienteering - what it is about!
