Orienteering race 59:34 [3] 2.6 km (22:55 / km)
shoes: Duluth Wild Boar

This was the kickoff event for the weekend was a sprint. The event felt like an Orienteering Festival. I tried to put my trail runners on but it was a no-go from the toes. I really felt rusty and realized after the first two controls I had to switch over to following compass bearings and hang up using features. So with "Fred in the shed" all started to smooth out. I had to walk but enjoyed the technical challenge. Many cairns and rocks and rock stocks. Lots of decoy controls. A lot of fun.

The walk to the start and back. 1.4 KM one way. Up the side of a steep hill. The course itself went around the two hill tops.

Orienteering 32:00 [2] 2.0 km (16:00 / km)

Multiple trips back and forth from the parking lot to the group campsite. Where we camped was about 400 meters from the car. You had to pack everything in including your water. The trip included a swinging bridge. The camping was fun. The weather was perfect.

Night Course - Yellow at Eno River State Park. Again due to the toes, I walked this course. Got passed by Jordan on my way to #1. Caught up with him at #2. We teamed up by the time we got to #3. It was interesting we would discuss the route choices and decide the best one to get to each control. Right after #6 a branch smacked me in the face knocking off my glasses, headlamp and one glove. Realized after we got to 7, that my compass was gone. Jordan did not have one. So we discussed options and decided to hit the trail at the top of the hill. (I was afraid without a compass, if we tried the cross country route, we could walk for hours in circles). Turned out to be quite an adventure. We ultimately ended up on the red trail and were able to snag the last two controls. We lost 10 or 15 minutes on that route. (We would have been better going back to 6 and taking the creek over to the trail. - Oh well!)
