Orienteering race 2:30:00 [3] 6.89 km (21:46 / km)
shoes: INOV TERROC 330

Green Course at Camp Ransburg. Thank you for preprinted maps! Went to #1, #221 I saw no flag at the foot of the spur decided to continue on down to next spur and the flag was on the ground. I rehung and moved on. #2 #107 had a little problem with this one cost me about a minute. on #3 #414, I ran into the control coming up the re-entrant that pointed to the control, but it was one big clearing. I went up the creek past the water treatment plant on my way to #4 #111. I went over an electric fence on my way there. On my way to #5 #408 I somehow got turned around I was on the N side of the ridge instead of the S side. This means I passed over the trail without seeing it. I did not realize where I was until I saw the entrance road from the ridge top. I had to backtrack almost to #4 to get my bearings wasted about 30 minutes on this. Smooth to #6 #408, there was a nice depression on the road which was a great attack point. Ran into Jim here. Smooth to #7 #308 took a ditch to the creek. There was a good trail up the hill from the creek. Ran into a convoy of boy scouts on the ridge top continued down and then over the next ridge hitting #7. Smooth to #8 #232 where I met Dave. Smooth to #9 #225 but the control was hidden by a log, did not see right away. Tried to contour around to the N of the hill but the water was too high. I ended up going over the top and following the boundary markers to the control #10 #230. On my way back, I ran into a 3 foot black snake. The water was so high, I could not see the bottom ended up going E a bit to where I could see the bottom of the lake. I crossed it was between ankle and knee deep and led me into a nasty mud flat. I ran into Dave again at #11 #101. Smooth to #12 #223. #13 #219 I took what I thought was the first Vehicle Track, but it turned out the trail is now a Vehicle Track. So I had to go further N to the next reentrant to find the control.

shoes: INOV TERROC 330

I finished locating the perm control locations today under ideal weather conditions. I will do one more map update using the GPS data and field observations from today.

Got my appointment with the Dermatologist set up in May to look at this tick bite from two years ago that keeps growing.

Walking 31:05 [2] 2.82 km (11:01 / km)

Going to Camp Stem and find the final permanent controls tomorrow. I plan on hanging the far east one when I find it. It's a KM east of any of the others.

Finished up the course map for the Camp Stem meet on May 17. I got clearance to go out and finish the GPS work on the map. I've been updating the map as I've been locating the control locations but there will still be a lot of work left after the meet.

I am using the old permanent course installed sometime in the 1980's. I would love to know who from OLOU designed the course have gotten conflicting stories. It has been interesting finding them all. About half the markers are still there! Some are Carsonite Posts while some are the wrap around the tree types. In some cases the feature is gone while in three cases both the feature and the marker were gone. So I have moved them to the nearest feature. The picture I posted on our facebook page of the ruin is an old store or checkpoint where the boats used to land from the Ohio river and drop off commodities and pick up Tobacco. Not much left of it but it's interesting.
