Walking 38:56 [1] 2.82 km (13:48 / km)

I received my order from the discount house for the running shoes. This was the discount close out shop that Bruce Moore posted about on facebook. I ordered a pair for me and for Janet at $8.99 per pair. Shipping was $8. I received a PUMA running shoe. It includes 12 metal spikes that are screwed in using a special wrench that was provided. My size is a 14. It will be a few days until I get a chance to try them out since our house is currently full of grandkids.

Orienteering (Practice Race) 1:42:00 [4] 9.17 km (11:07 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Ran the 2 hr score O that Jim & Rich put on in November. My goal was to get all the controls within 2 hours. I ran with the thumb compass on one hand and the gps in the other. I pulled a waypoint at each control location to make sure I did not miss any controls. Real easy to check myself on the geo-referenced map in OCAD. I just imported a dxf file and could see exactly where I had gone. It was brutal like the Sunday A meet. My hands were cold until about control 12. The only deviation from a normal meet, I skipped 2 wet creek crossings going around instead, cost me about 5 minutes. I ran with contacts and reading glasses. It seemed to work real well. I could not use the thumb compass until about control 10 - my hands were too numb to turn the dial. Not much need of a compass in this park, very feature rich. I had a lot of fun doing this! But a little to long for what I hope to keep doing weekly.

Walking 39:56 [1] 2.82 km (14:10 / km)
shoes: INOV TERROC 330

I'm breaking in the Inov-8 that came this week. It's the lightest pair of shoes I have ever worn. It really felt ready to wear on the course right out of the box. So glad to get these at 49.95.

Walking 39:18 [1] 2.82 km (13:56 / km)

I have the training plan set up. I will do the first session tomorrow at EP Tom Sawyer. It will be interesting to see if I have time or will power to carry it through tax season.

Walking 39:18 [1] 2.82 km (13:56 / km)

I have been looking over the plethora of material I have on Orienteering Training and Speed. It's easy to see my problem is both physical (endurance) and mental. So I'm working on developing what I will be doing in training this coming year.
