Orienteering 24:10 [4] 2.3 km (10:30 / km)
weight:236lbs shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2015

I ran a sprint course at Cox park from last year. I needed a higher rigor workout than I have been getting. Only surprise the grass had not been cut in a while. In one place it was chest high on me. Promising sign - it was Saturday and they were mowing across the street in Thurman Hutchens Park.

I chose Cox since I am trying to decide where to hold the micro sprint. No word back on the park I chose so I'm going to need to nail down something soon. Cox is nice since it has ton's of trees each individually marked on the map.

I finally did it. I traded in the 95 Mazda and got a 2013 Mazda. So much new stuff on it, it will take a while to get used to everything!

Grandkids left today after a 5 day visit. Very quiet now.

Weights 5:00 [3]

Time synched the controls we are using for the sprint series tonight.

There was a new version of SI Config available that I downloaded. It appears to address an issue we had on a download box plus a host of other issues.

They also have a new firmware version 649. I tried to download it on the readout box I was using and it failed. I decided to wait and hear the chatter on it before I invest time upgrading all our control boxes.

My sprint in a while. Always an interesting park to run in. The last couple controls were done in a downpour.

Field tested the sprint course plus updated the map at Girl Scout Headquarters. I have been producing the map in 1:4000 long and narrow area. Next year I may do 1:2500. Each year the same drill, I have to figure out where the homeless are living and avoid that part of the map.

Kayaking 3:15:00 [3] 9.47 km (20:35 / km)

Day 3 of our kayak trip. We put in at Beaver creek boat ramp. We went up Beaver creek then turned onto Green Creek. A lot of trees had washed down into Green Creek, so we had to turn around before reaching the end. Moving time 2.51, stopped time 40 (lunch). Caught a break - it was cloudy and the thunderstorms held off until we had left. Travel time was 11 minutes from the B&B.

Really enjoyed the B&B. Roger & Karen were fantastic and very helpful. I would pour over their maps before heading out each day. They have a lot since fishing is so popular here.

Kayaking 4:10:00 [3] 9.09 km (27:30 / km)

Day 2 of our kayak trip. We put in at Browns Ford. Went up Glover Creek and Trace Creek, then went up Barren River itself. The big surprise to me was Barren River was the size of the Ohio River in places. Going up Glover Creek was all in the shade - delightful in the heat. Had to pull out for a while due to a thunderstorm. Time moving 2.52, time stopped 1.45 (lunch & thunderstorm). 22 minute drive from the B&B.

Kayaking 4:56:00 [3] 11.53 km (25:40 / km)

Day 1 of our annual kayak trip. This year to Barren River Lake. The water was 7 feet over summer pool.

Put in at the end of old 31 where it ends in the water. Enough room for a couple vehicles to pull off here. About 1 mile from the B&B where we were staying.

Went up Peter Creek. Ran into a thunderstorm along the way which kicked up white caps. We got out and waited for a while due to lightening. Kayaked thru a forest due to the high pool level. 3:18 moving and 1:38 stopped (lunch and waiting out the thunderstorm.

I posted meet director notes at our facebook page for the 6hr Rogaine. I could only complete the foot options since I still don't have clearance for the bike portion of the meet yet. I was supposed to hear from them today.

So glad the sprint was yesterday. Hot today with heat index > 100.

Meet with top brass at Girl Scouts - they will let me know by the end of the week if biking is okay for the meet and which caves I can use.

Orienteering race 31:29 [4] 3.0 km (10:30 / km)

Way to soon after the Adventure Race to be doing this. Spiked all controls just very sluggish. Oh my toes hurt.

Well done course by Chris. I had no idea about all the construction on the NW side of the park.

If I had the category "limping" I would have used it. Stiff and sore but felt good to be moving around after a day in the office.

Adventure Race 5:30:00 [5] 19.6 mi (16:50 / mi)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Foot part of adventure race. First time at a national qualifier. Got the maps at 5:00am. You first had to plot the UTM points on your map. I finally finished at 6:45. Then you plotted race strategy and gear drop-off locations. With only 15 minutes I plotted an absurd strategy which I could not execute.

The only logical beginning was to start on bike - which I did. Part of the race was on a 55 mph narrow curvy road. I was fighting flashbacks the whole time on that road. I had to stop and pump up the back tire. Made the decision to grab the points south bound along the Sheltowee Trace. (Did this to get off the road). The next 14.8 Km's were along single track some easy some very technical. By the end of this I thought I had blistered my rear end. Turned out to be bruises. I wanted to push on to a TA in the area (3.5KM away) but had run out of water. The TA I had chosen was 15 KM. I was close enough to make it back to my tent and fill up with water there. My rear was really hurting decided to just drop the bike there and go on foot. When you drop your bike at home base you really have signed off of an adventure race like this since the points are so scattered. I traveled 19.6 KM's to get two checkpoints on foot. Learned a lot I now can plot UTM points even developed a faster plotting method for the last few. I will have to think hard about this one. It's under 3 hrs drive time to get here but the race is brutal due to the distances and the heat. I was cramping by the time I got into the finish. Also picked up a blister on my foot. (In the excitement and lack of time at the beginning I forgot to put on my Glide.)

Adventure Race 4:15:00 [5] 28.55 km (8:56 / km)

Bike part of the adventure race - 13.75 KM paved roads & 14.8 KM single track.
