Biking 4:30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Finished up the controls at Camp Stem for the Rogaine tomorrow. Feel like I set controls for a 6hr or 8hr not the 4hr that we are actually doing. It should be interesting.

Biking 5:00:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

I set controls at Camp Stem today on the mountain bike. Finally figured out how to bunge cord the stands to the bike.

Some controls are close to the trail or road. Others I just rode to a good attackpoint then went to the control on foot.

The mountain bike seems to help in a Rogaine format like this meet, since the distances between controls are much longer.

Other 2:00:00 [1]

The only thing the grandkids wanted to do was swim due to the hideous temp's and humidity combo today. So we went over to the beach at Rough River State Park.

What a draining experience this heat has been on the camping trip.

Took the two oldest grandkids on a cave crawl at Cave Creek. Much larger cave than I had expected. The cool temps were quite welcome on a very hot & humid day

Kayaking 3:00:00 [1]

Took the 8 grandkids - one at a time on kayak and tried to get them familiar with the kayak and safety. Good time to be in the water since it was really hot on this camping trip. Included some time for the older ones to paddle by themselves while I was on another kayak just in case help was needed.

Road test and written test at the Bike Class. Passed - got the club jersey from the Louisville Bike Club. Learned a lot from the class. Glad I spent the time. It was good to see Andrew Thai again. Now I am also officially a member for year at the Bike Club. Interesting group, a well oiled machine.

Worked some more on the map at Girl Scout Headquarters for the Sprint on August 4th.

Orienteering 4:36:00 [3] 9.4 km (29:22 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Setting remote controls at Camp Stem for the August 1 meet. Am using some of the new area added to the map. This includes a couple caves. One of the caves you could drive a truck into the opening was so large.

This area is just like Otter Creek which is directly across the Ohio River to the south. If I had more time this could easily be a 6 hr Rogaine. I don't expect anyone to clear this on foot. Those on bikes could clear the course.

Walking 12:50 [1] 1.0 km (12:50 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

The left hip is still very sore. So I really dialed back today. I need it tomorrow when Jim and I set the remote controls for the August 1 Score O

I need to get the map updated for the August 4th sprint also but afraid to push it to much. So maps to be updated - so little time.

Orienteering 4:27:00 [3] 7.76 km (34:24 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Visited the last controls on the Long course for the A meet. I flagged these since they are so remote. Also flagged a lot of old fences. I also did map updates in the control area and routes getting to the controls. Lake was very high 17.5 feet above summer pool. This was good to see, so I know where not to put the controls.

Hope to get enough done to send the Long courses to the course consultant in a couple weeks for a first look over.

Walking 19:15 [1] 1.41 km (13:39 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Left Hip was very sore today, had to scrub my plan to go out to Taylorsville Lake. I'm thinking this was caused by having to ride the stiff clutch for 45 minutes in the ride from downtown to the Sprint last night. 45 minutes to go 11 blocks!

Orienteering race 23:09 [3] 2.2 km (10:31 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Starting having hip pain on the outside of the left hip by control 2. Had to run at about 75%, which really helped my navigation.

Walking 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Brisk walk to and from police substation

Biking 1:30:00 [3] 9.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

3 hour bike class by Louisville Bike Club. Lesson 4 of 5. First part of the class was changing a flat tire. You had to remove your rear tire, pull out the inner tube and put in a new one. Then reassemble the bike.

Then we did drills in the parking lot before going on a club ride.

Next week is the final exam - written test and road test.

Orienteering race 48:37 [4] 1.9 km (25:35 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

Miserable race for me. Some due to some emotional stresses - just have not been able to focus the last few weeks. Some of issue was the flooding, I will post pics later. I went around while others went thru even swimming. So they may have been covering 1.9 I was really doing a 2.7 race. It was a unique meet, never been to one like it.

Walking 31:50 [1] 2.82 km (11:17 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Checked Gutters and refastened window well covers this AM. Did not see any thing wrong. Guess it was just the rainfall rate was too high on Sunday AM. Another storm blew through here today in the afternoon. On the west side of the line so not as much rain. More expected tonight.

Note

Bike class was lecture format only due to wet roads and intersections with no traffic lights due to power outages.

Orienteering race 38:51 [4] 2.7 km (14:23 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

A nasty rainy day kept the numbers down - Yet we still had 22 show up for the meet. A great course put together by Louis, very technical for our sprints. I did not realize until I put the results together that I had MP on control 6. Oh well, it happens!
