Walking 45:00 [1] 2.0 km (22:30 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

X country sking 45:00 [3]

Loaded the ski's into the back of the truck and drove to a large area of deep snow at a local church. I really over did it. Heel is very painful this evening. I ordered several items today for the heel. Strasburg sock, gel insoles and gel heel cups.

X country sking 30:00 [3]

Last day on this course. I will need to break in another course. Having problems with the binding on one of the skis. Will need to work on it before tomorrow.

It felt like I was skiing on an ice rink. Only the ruts keep me on course. Every evening is different due to the snow changing each day. I guess that's why the Eskimos had so many different words for snow.

Sunday Feb 22, 2015 #

X country sking 40:00 [3]

Back onto the path in my yard. Spring snow conditions very wet snow and ice. Much harder skiing. Still it was great to get out of the tax cave and do something outside.

Weights (snow removal) 45:00 [2]

Removing a couple inches of slush from the driveway which was freezing quickly

Friday Feb 20, 2015 #

X country sking 40:00 [3]

Very fast track. Don't know if higher temps - upper teens vs near zero or just I had packed down the track. Could just fly around the trail in my yard.

What a great day for skiing. Crisp air, powder snow. Exhausted after this session.

Note
(injured)

Travel Day to BG & Back. Woke up and the left heel was brick hard, so I ruled out plantar fasciitis. I iced it and wore compression socks today. Best I could do. Assume some sort of trauma to the heel.

Orienteering 1:33:00 [3] 7.57 km (12:17 / km)
shoes: INOV TERROC 330

Reran the Score O from 2008 at EP Tom Sawyer. Sharp pain in my left heel about 1/2 way thru had to hobble thru to the end. Unsure exactly what the problem is.

Walking 34:30 [1] 2.82 km (12:14 / km)

Registered for Return of Otter. I found out my first registration was in the demo mode so it did not register.

Registered for the Flying Pig tonight. I think I paid, it would not let me leave - it kept hanging on trying to get me to set up a Paypal account.

Looking back over the course, I really enjoyed the two long legs since they were cross country and required nav skills the whole time. I have had a lot of long legs in the past that were either the meet director needed X amount of distance and you do a long trail run or road run or you had two logical route choices. Or the meet director needed to get you to the other side of the park.

On these I did not see much choice but to navigate along the straight line between control points and pick off features as you made your way to the control. I know a lot has to do with the park and what you have to work with, but this was a nice change of pace.

Orienteering race 2:08:00 [4] 7.19 km (17:48 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

Fun course with two legs over 1 KM on the Green. Will wait till I look over split analysis. I had one bad leg where I was convinced I was on a certain trail and was looking up for the control. When I finally opened my mind and started looking down I saw it, but may have wasted 8 or 9 minutes looking for it. Almost all just forest, kind of fun.

Map quest suggested a possible route thru IN using 156 and 56 then onto 50. Got to Patriot, IN and 156 was closed. It took a one hour detour. Oh well, so much for Map quest. So 3 hour drive instead of the 2 that mapquest said it would take.

Last comments on the meet Saturday. 81 starts - we had 3 schools and a boy scout troop. Very impressed and thankful for Ben producing the results. Even got the splits to work on Attackpoint. It helped me out a bunch.

Walking 34:20 [1] 2.82 km (12:10 / km)

I totally ruined my worn out pair of gaiters on the meet. One ripped in two so they were tossed after the meet. I owe a lot to them. Saved my leg when I ran into barbwire at Middle Creek on a Thursday.
