Orienteering (Turf) 59:06 [3] 10.22 km (5:47 / km) +240m 5:11 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Ashton court in dobs & the mud, permanent O course, for a change. Hoped for masses of Turfs, but in fact the place has hardly any - I got three. incl. one down on the road at Bower Ashton (couldn't help myself)

Path in from no 17 to no 21 non existent - no way thru - got stuck & after 2 attempts, had to bail out back the way I came. Map must be wrong here (pics on Strava)

no 9 I find a very badly mapped control / circle. I stopped my garmin & walked around; to get to the post, you go down the same slope as the gullies are on. That's not what's expected looking at the map.

Felt v "O" unfit & out of practice at the west end - mud, undergrowth,. rocky, steep in parts, uneven ground. By contrast, the grassy golf course areas I was able to float along happily. Indeed............

Note
(rest day)

Boiler broken.

No, not that one - the one in my rented Clifton flat.

Tally: I own: 2 properties, 2 boilers;
Number of working boilers owned by me: Nil.

Update: "fixed" it, but radiator leaking. No breaks here. several calls to Tett to isolate & "fix" that. Plenty of work to get done now. Good oh.

FML. https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/fml/

Facebook people can see a year ago. POM.

Who says 2020 was shit? 2021 is going A LOT WORSE so far.

Yeah, right now I would rather be a Kiwi. Rain.

Running (Turf) 1:07:56 [3] 13.01 km (5:13 / km) +150m 4:56 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 11

Despite some residual brain-wrong / "clamp" / "fog", I had to get out for MH reasons, (also rain & wind). Turf. Near me.

On balance, really glad I got out, despite feeling a little off colour , & the mud in Stoke park being horrific.

Got 13 zones.

hot shower, shave, wood fire, cats, food & red wine at Liz's later. She getting overwhelmed with the complex practicalities of moving to edinbugh (£400 to move the pets!!!).

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Slept vastly better, but am aware I'm slightly off colour . Ugh.

Running hard (*) does trigger very mild CFS symptoms. I'm going to have to balance my desire to run fast against this. eg. next week's 5mile road TT.

It's a huge shame I can't climb (yet) - an indoor session at Bloc/TCA would be exactly what i need. Climbing never makes me sick (whilst mountaineering, paradoxically, is the worst thing imaginable). Ah, those uneducated who, when i say I climb, say "Oooh, do you want to climb Everest?".

(A bit like a shot putter saying he's an athlete, & getting a response -an athlete? ah do you do the 3000m steeplechase? yes it's that different) (Everest ascents once cruelly referred to as "roped snowy golf courses in the sky" - harsh).

Onwards.

(*) doesn't seem to include O - probably because it's not possible to maintain threshold all the way round an O course.

Walking (Turf) 1:00:00 [1] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)
(sick)

Short Turf walk (an hour) from LIDL in Barton hill (new area - new zones)

Picked up 8 zones & took my mind off my brain-wrong.

Pretty Turf zone pic here: https://www.strava.com/activities/4807904278

Boiler still broken & all leads leading nowhere ("my mate will call you tomorrow!" - result - no calls......

days turn into weeks......

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Beaten up , & another bad night....

If I want to run fast, which i enjoy, & try hard, which I also enjoy, then the payoff is pain & bad nights.

Groggy today. Will note when it passes. Can't imagine this isn't related to my old CFS.

Running (Time trial) 43:55 [5] 10.57 km (4:09 / km) +17m 4:07 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 11

Quick "crackpot plan" to see how much fun it is to run 3hr Marathon pace (my pipe dream - London 2022?) for a quarter of the distance. Portway, nice & flat. Trainers on, not racers. SPOOK O top on over T shirt, not racing vest. 11 degrees - mild. Shorts.

All very nice early on - god this is easy! Pattering along at 4:00 - 4:05 pace. Yay, I must be fitter than I thought! Result.

Turned around just after 5km (20:23) and - OH SHIT NO. The "moderate breeze" forecast had been at my back on the way out. Suddenly, things got a lot harder. By 5miles / 8km (33:09), it was vile, and i was slowed, to 4:21, in fact I tried to give myself a breather. From 9km to 10.55km was tough, but i rallied. 10km split was either 41:28 or 41:31. That's OK.

Over a minute up on schedule, can i do this 4 times? No.. Twice? No. Twice in no wind, in a race with others around me? Possibly...... we shall see later in March (will be solo there, though):

Note: bottom of level 5 effort today. To 5km, level 4. Twas tempo, not flat out.

Cycling (Turf) 1:18:05 [3] 22.25 km (3:31 / km) +179m 3:22 / km

Cycle Turf today - mild, & dry - best day for it this week, even pumped my tyres up, this made a huuuge difference to the riding experience.....

Had printed off 2 maps, and marked them in red, but in fact, didn't bother, and just used iPhone, clutched in hand.

Again, the addictive mature meant i found myself ages away from home at about 50 mins (north of Bradley stoke retain centre - oops?)

the Parkway station zone you had to have a train ticket to get to! Unfair!

Pretty tired at end & note that Dan Weaver of UBOC has nicked my friday zones. I know where he is, and I will go round with some heavies & nobble him. Foul play!

I need to stop this craze..... it's bonkers. And you lose the zones anyway!!!
