Quick "crackpot plan" to see how much fun it is to run 3hr Marathon pace (my pipe dream - London 2022?) for a quarter of the distance. Portway, nice & flat. Trainers on, not racers. SPOOK O top on over T shirt, not racing vest. 11 degrees - mild. Shorts.
All very nice early on - god this is easy! Pattering along at 4:00 - 4:05 pace. Yay, I must be fitter than I thought! Result.
Turned around just after 5km (20:23) and - OH SHIT NO. The "moderate breeze" forecast had been at my back on the way out. Suddenly, things got a
lot harder. By 5miles / 8km (33:09), it was vile, and i was slowed, to 4:21, in fact I tried to give myself a breather. From 9km to 10.55km was tough, but i rallied. 10km split was either 41:28 or 41:31. That's OK.
Over a minute up on schedule, can i do this 4 times? No.. Twice? No. Twice in no wind, in a race with others around me? Possibly...... we shall see later in March (will be solo there, though):
