Orienteering race 38:44 [5] 6.27 km (6:11 / km) +94m 5:45 / km
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

JK Middle, Old Windmill Hill, M55L, 5.4km, 175m, 24 controls. 38:44, 2nd.

Good run, despite nerves & hot weather & the stress of Chas starting 4 mins behind me. Got a little lost en route to no 2, then no 3 was fine then I stopped at no 4 to show a little girl where she was (10 seconds) - sorry, I'm not mean enough to leave her there at a "wrong" control (not wrong for me!)

caught Nick L shortly after & stung myself in nettle patch passing him en route to no 6. took east route over canal, then with Duncan H (& Kimb, both moving well) for 9-10-11, (he on M50), then on my own, dry mouth, nervous re. Chas, and trying to "keep my shit together" . Startlingly, I did, and really didn't mess up, tho got lucky on no 15 & no 20. Contouring in to no 12 seemed a good one. no 14 was good as I accidentlly found the pit which proved a perfect AP. Small 10 sec misses here & there. Finished & was a minute up on Clive & Tim T, but not officially leading , ever, as Nick Dennis of BOk had posted a sub-34 min time when his splits printout showed -20.00 at no 1. EMIT - gotta love it. So unreliable, no one knows what the hell is going on!!!!

After no 20, I let rip but didn't feel quite my usual self - the heat - ouch. 10k tomorrow - bloody hell.

Chas rapidly finished close behind me (winning in 36:58), and holding him off made me quietly pleased with myself whatever the others ran. Can i do it tomorrow? (a possibly angry Tett, 2-0 down to me now, starting 4 mins after me :-( )

Event: JK 2019

2 PM

Orienteering race (Urban) 15:30 [5] 3.32 km (4:40 / km) +18m 4:33 / km
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

JK Sprint, Aldershot barracks - hot, fast, furious. Very hard leg to no 16, which i ballsed up & panicked, making it worse.lost 45-50 seconds IMO. Also lost 20 secs on no 19, went too far round buildings, just worn out now with LH calf "snithcing" & stressing me out. V dry mouth & mentally / physically beaten up by the end.

So not pleased with 5th, miles down on Quentin, and 45 secs behind Nigel. Clive DQed outrageously; 1:20 up on me :-( . This day will be remembered for EMIT fail rather than O results, which is grim.

V pleased to see Megan win! :-)

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Blood sugars really high - 17mmol. Should be 10 in the morning, & most people are 5-7 after food.

This will kill me by the time I'm 70. (my Dad, & his Dad, both died age 60, so that would be a result, actually) (I'm nearly 55.....)

Really itching to climb today (addicted post-France). Perhaps i should. That will bring my blood sugars down.

I guess I need to start thinking seriously about quitting beer.

Jesus.

EDIT: "ill" - diabetes, Atypical type2. This isn't affecting the JK.

EDIT2: blood down 70% after starving myself all morning . 9mmol!!!! rollercoaster. Water & coffee life .

EDIT3: mmol under 7 late afternoon. Will I bonk at the JK????? :-0

Running 45:35 [3] 9.12 km (5:00 / km) +117m 4:42 / km
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

Steady run on stoke park pur down in brand new fluoro Mudclaw 300s. Tried to find mud. Had a map or two in my hand..

9km, that will do. Now to taper. Felt light. which is bad, as apparently (today) found out my diabetes is MUCH worse - nearly 15% worse. So I need to eat less, less carbs, less sugar.

They're going to try to change my drugs. How can this be, I'm so skinny? If i eat less sugary /

(fat is fine tho - we've all been sold the lie since the 80s that fat is bad: it's not - sugar is bad). (fatty pork chops are the best, and exceedingly good for you) (fatty well-cooked lamb too). I'm avoiding the "extra lean" stuff in supermarkets now.

shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

10 hour journey (mostly me driving) back from Font. Back was bad in the morning. Painkillers.

Tim Tett greeted us back home. He went running , and i felt stiff & frustarted, so I quickly nipped up Pur Down for a jog to ease stiff legs.

S&C (bouldering) 1:00:00 [3]

Last day's bouldering at Font, at Rocher ???

Enjoyed a few easies then a quick red slab of horror, which I flashed (!), then some blues & bimbling, great fun.

Nice, then sightseeing at Barbizon. Would have run later but had to return crash pads & it was an hour round trip, got back hungry at 8:45pm. Beer immediately.

Good holiday! Must come back - for O & climbing.
